After 2 weeks those comparisons are so inaccurate...... On paper, I think the Chargers have the advantage but theoretically we can win decidedly. Our awesome 3-4 scheme needs to start working in terms of generating a consistent pass rush. And if Brett Favre can show some of last season's flash, we'll be good so long at the WRs (Coles) can hold onto the easy first down and TD catches.
The Jets really need to jump out early in this one. Don't let the Chargers get on a roll after all that has happened to them the last couple of weeks. It would be helpful if the defense could get a couple of timely TOs.
I'm just really curious to see where the Jets are at mentally after last week. As a fan, that was one of the most deflating losses I've seen. I would think that the Jets' players will be extremely pissed (at themselves). I would also think that the coaching staff is so tired of being second-guessed and criticized that they will come out extremely aggressive. I still think that player for player SD has the edge in terms of talent.
We have a decent number of sacks, but we are not in the QBs face on the majority of pass plays. We are getting pressure when we blitz and leave open areas in the secondary, but we've also been hurt in these situations when the blitz gets picked up (like a few of Welker's catches last week) I want to see pressure or at least a collapsing pocket due to our d-line and a linebacker, which to me is true pass pressure, because the players whose job it is to get to the QB on every play are actually making a difference. Anyone can get pressure when you send more guys than they can block, but you know you're getting production from your D-line and LBs when the offensive line consistently tightens up on the QB on pass plays and your DBs are doing their normal jobs, covering WRs or sitting in their zones spying the quarterback.
I guess we have to agree to disagree. I think they've been in the QB's face quite often in passing situations and it's preventing teams from doing a lot through the air so far. Most of Welkers yards came off quick screens. I think most of the passing yardage has come against our 3rd CB and S in coverage against TE's.
ya i would agree, our D has been better than what i expected this season, both pass and rush. Im hoping and expecting revis to have a quiet game over there on his side. If Rivers dares,, watch out
Off-topic, but I am pretty sure I saw Eric Barton and two other Jets (maybe Harris) in La Jolla yesterday...they didn't look to fired up. Rather, they looked confused as to where they were going. I was wearing my Jets hat and the guy I think was Barton (does he still have the fauxhawk?) exchanged some looks back-and-forth, but I didn't say anything. Probably should have said "have a great game" or something, but since I wasn't positive they were Jets, I just looked stupid and kept walking.
on paper this looks to be a winnable game... maybe SD gives the game away at the end and doesn't close it out-- they did it in 2004 against the Jets.
I think we might be looking at the same things from different perspectives. You're seeing the open receiver as the problem, whereas I see the QB having time to throw as the problem. I guess a lot of those passes are short though, so the QB doesn't need much time to throw it.....you have a point there. Tonight will be a tough test for our safeties and CB depth with Antonio Gates.
We seemingly have another opportunity to exploit another team's weakness. With their best offensive and defensive players hurt, the Jets can take advantage and turn this into a win.
This game is a Catch-22 for the Jets. The Chargers are capable of putting up 31 points easily. SO, what do the Jets do? Try to play a ball-control offensive game to keep Rivers and company off the field or do they "open it up" and let the pigskin fly? I say "Catch-22" because after last week, Mangini and Schotty received a lot of well-deserved criticism for being so damn conservative. So they may very well try to silence everyone by turning Favre loose. But if they do that, the risks are as great as the rewards. If they try a ball-control gameplan, they'll get fried by the fans and media if they lose. So whatever approach they take, we better have scoreboard when it's over.
Crackhead....but probably the greatest defensive player of all time. Sacked O'Brien once and said, "Son, ya'll gonna have to do better than this".
Hangs out and plays golf with OJ Simpson a lot. Once called him on the phone on the Howard Stern show because Stern was always trashing OJ. Howard was afraid to take the phone.
