Yes on Pup & yes on IR also. However they did not IR Clowney because as I said they felt he could assist us later in the year. Right now he is taking up a roster spot but not contributing
That's what I was thinking. But I don't really think that's really possible. Anyone who's had a broken shoulder will tell you it takes longer than 6 weeks to recover.
I never heard anything what his Injury really is. Are you sure it?s really broken? May just be dislocated.
Like everyone here I'm just guessing. Mangini's secretive ways are a little much at times. I'd think dislocated would be worse. That would probably require surgery. Otherwise the joint gets sloppy and starts to pop out a lot.
The bolded part of your statement does not make sense. If the Jets put him in IR, Clowney would be out for the rest of the year.
With the PUP there was something that you couldn't put them onto the list for an injury sustained in training camp or something - they needed to be placed on it earlier than that. I don't remember what the exact rule was, but it was mentioned when Clowney was initially injured. Still, I think he'll be back fairly rapidly - I think they would have IR'ed him otherwise.
If it?s just dislocated, you usually don?t need surgery. If it?s broken it?s much more likely that you need surgery, depends on how it?s broken. If it?s just dislocated without anything complicated, and they were able to put it back in quickly, he schould be back during October, probably early October.
I think it's been cleared up by everyone at this point. Players with a small amount of experience (not sure of the qualifications) cannot be put on the ir list in training camp without passing through waivers. Once the player makes the 53 man roster he can then be put on the IR without having to clear waivers. The league wanted a way to prevent teams from stashing young development type players on the IR.
It does sound stupid, but the reason the rule was enacted was, years ago teams would put 6-7 rookies on IR who weren't hurt. It was kind of a practice squad, who couldn't practice. They could work out, receive instruction from coaches, watch film and study the play book. The Players Union forced the issue.
