This is what happens when you overrate Talent like Chad. You pass on possible greatness for the security of being mediocre.
Now that I think of it, why didn't we trade up and get Peterson too. Man is he going to be good. He will be a top ten back for years to come.
Not only that but he really is in a great situation in Denver playing for probably the best Offensive mind in the league in Mike Shanahan with good players around him. He probably would not have had as much success with the Jets up to this point.
QFT. Whether you liked the D'Brick pick or not there really was no other viable option at that slot for the Jets. They'd have had to trade down to take Cutler and in doing so would have passed on a premier offensive lne prospect at a time when their line had never been weaker.
As i said at the time, if Cutler becomes a great QB noone is going to care that he was considered a reach to the "draft experts" and fans that have no idea what his real value is or was. If the Jets did draft Cutler at 4 and he becomes the QB that he is looking like he will become it would have been a great pick whether they picked him at 4 .
If D'brick continues to play like he did in week 1 for the rest of the season people will have a hard time complaining about taking him even if Cutler becomes great. If we took a great LT when we needed a LT, then who cares? People want to complain about our FO not taking o-line early in the draft, well we have 2 of them starting on our line now. Both of them could turn out to be great. If we had 10 first round draft picks there were a lot of guys we should have taken. Unfortunately we "only" had 2.
Cutler would never have been able to develop with the Jets without a good line in front of him. The reason he's developed as much as he has in Denver is that the Bronco's offensive line has always been a strong part of the team.
By drafting no one all the Jets did is make sure they have no one. The reality is Favre is gone after this year and while it may be exciting to have him now, the Jets are going to be right back in the same boat of having no franchise QB next year. Being afraid to pick a QB at the top of the draft because your scared he'll be a bust is no way to build a team.
Well, I am sure the Pats franchise QB has a limited chance of coming back after a torn ACL and MCL. So, come join us in that boat.
Well played sir. This is really the only piint that needs to be made in this thread. If not for D-brick we would have yet another large hole to fill on the O-line. Lets forget about that go and use hind sight to seem like we're smart and everyone else is a asshole. Good job!
Or sticking ANY QB behind the WORST O-line in the NFL is no way to build a team either...... Go play on mattcasselsoursavior.com
So the Jets will be starting a 41 year old QB next year??? Wow, Jet fans don't set themselves up for a fall, they throw themselves into it.
While Vincey "Booo Hoooo" Young is hurting inside due to the heavy dosage of criticism he has received, Cutler just keeps on chugging. Shanahan > Titans FO!
Much easier to win in the NFL with a great QB and a decent LT than with a decent QB and a great LT. We were as desperate for a QB as we were for a LT Cutler was a great prospect and we passed. The only dumber thing this organization did was passing on Marino.
Cutler was drafted in '06 dude...where've you been? He started all of last season and outplayed the other 2 QBs then too...
