I can't figure why Mangini decided to go extra point or for 2 in the 2nd half???

..after scoring a TD to go ahead 19-7 w/ 1:08 in 3rd quarter...Mangini should have gone for 2...IMO there is no reason to kick the extra point, especially since you probably would only be able to kick a field goal if the Jets got down close to the end zone....

13 points is a TD and 2 FG's for the tie.

12 points is a TD and 2 FG's for the win. If he is confident in nuge to hit the XP them it makes total sense to go for the PAT.

Who gives a shit about the chances. Its easy math. You don't figure in picks or fumbles, you just make the call on simple numbers. One point often makes a huge difference and he made the right choice.

In the 3rd quarter, you still should go for the XP. Later in the game, not so much, but there's still enough time for Miami to kick 2 FGs and get a TD.

...but you must factor in that you probably can't kick a field goal...which can make a 13 pt to 16 pt lead....

No you factor in waht your opponent can score to tie or beat you. If you score again the whole thing changes. you always face the current score when trying to decide if your want 2 vs 1.

...so you don't want to factor in that you probably CAN'T kick a winning field goal if the Fins score 2 touchdowns??? but you are willing to assume they could score 2 field goals and a touchdown in the final 16 mins...just admit you're WRONG!!!!!

The thing that worried me is that the Jets obviously have no plan B at kicker on the current roster. They need to fix that fast with Nugent now officially banged up.

You're never supposed to go for 2 until well into the fourth quarter. The reason you don;t is that the score could change several times before it makes a difference. You always take the (relatively) sure point.

NFL coaches don;t even consider going for two until (typically) there is 10 minutes or less in the fourth.

That point was big. Miami could have kicked the FG when Lowery broke up that 4th and goal pass instead of going for it. Then they scored a TD on the next drive. And on the last drive, a 40 yard FG would have won it!!!

I can understand the case you guys are making who say he shouldn't have gone for it, but I gotta say that I agree with Mangini on this one. Made sense to me.

wow! i thought that i was the only person that noticed that.

nice to see other team's coaches made a mistake, too. the jets played way too loose on defense in the 4th quarter.

there was no kicker to kick the XP, he was hurt - therefore you go for two.

The Rams did this when Wilkins was hurt and won the game... we won too... lets pretend this thread isn't real.

Really? How many teams do have a plan B?

Out of interest, who took the kickoff after the Stuckey TD?

I guess they felt Nugent was ok at that point and up 20-7 just another FG would have pushed it to 23-7 and forced Maimi to need teo 2 pt conversions to tie. I didn't have a problem w/ that, I was shocked we didn't have anyone capable of kicking a PAT when we went for 2 and I was shocked we ran it on that last 3 rd down.
