I don't know why I'm saying this - as I have no intention to hijack this thread - but Pennington throwing like a 12 year girl stood out more than the great catch Baker made. What a bad memory. *Sigh*
You don't think people would pick up on that if you actually gave those players those exact roles. Obviously each one has his strengths but if Keller goes in and the defense knows the play will be a pass then it defeats the purpose and gives the defense an edge. Same with if Franks goes in and they know its a run.
Not exactly related but: Gates, Gonzalez, and even Shockey (as a Saint) > Witten and Clark. Gates is the first that comes to mind as a game breaking TE..
that's an understatement. I remember listening to it on the radio over the net and being pissed we didn't get the call but I never saw the highlight. Terrible call....great catch though
It was more of a generality. Of course they are all going to be used in multiple situations, but that's going to be their primary responsibilities I would think.
I'm such a dumbass...How could I forget GATES!! Good call. Gonzo is a little passed his prime though.
"disgruntled, pedestrian, mediocre TE that is Baker" Excellent description of Baker--After watching all the highlights and considering all the posts, I am upgrading my opinion of Baker to your description.
Baker is mediocre. That said he does have good hands and is a decent blocking TE. His biggest problem in the passing game is getting separation and lack of big play speed. Even with those negatives he is still our best bet as an all around TE. I think we are going to see a lot of two TE sets this season. Also probably see Keller lined up in the slot or even coming out of the backfield. He's the type of weapon I can see shotty doing some very interesting things with.
I Always thought they would keep baker out #1 and use Franks alot in the Red-Zone and Keller in the Slot and on 3rd and Long and short. Keller could be the starter by the halfway point. I Hope.
Baker should be #1 on the depth chart at this point, he has the softest hands on the team and Favre is going to need him. And next season, when Baker's stats actually justify it, he will cash in with a nice contract. I'm glad he's still here.
He's No.1 TE in the base offense.....so what? How often and what percentage of the offensive sets featuring Baker as the TE do you guys think the team will use. With all the skilled position personnel that the team currently has, I wouldn't be surprised if he's in on only 50-60% of the offensive plays.
I don't see what the surprise is about. Baker is the best all-around TE on the team in terms of blocking and receiving. So it's no wonder he's the #1. Keller will be (and maybe is) a better pure receiver. But he's still a work in progress with his blocking. And Franks is more of a situational guy. So why wouldn't you rank Baker as the top TE.
i took keller with my last pick and noticed the his projected stats from yahoo for the 2008 season are 33.7 yards and 0.3 TDs TOTAL.
