We aren't getting Favre, since its been leaked by the Jets that they aren't going to get him. I hate to single you out but this needs to get in everyone's head. Favre won't be a Jet.

Sorry, lol, I just wanted to BUMP this post I made BEFORE the Jets went and got Bret Favre... I was all for it since days one, like many other Jet fans, I think we all deserve to be excited during 2008. Favre is a proven winner and now this Jets team has a chance in 08. Exciting!

Wow, this is a fun read. Reading what everybody thought then and knowing what they think now.

Well, for me personally at least having seen what I've seen this preseason, I'm really glad they went and made that move. Clemens looks like el garbage.

Dont feel bad man... It's part of being a Jets fan. The Jets never sign players like Faneca, Traded for Favre, trade for Jenkins, sign Pace and Woody in one offseason... I loved the thought of Favre but I just never wanted to get my hopes up... Even after we traded for Favre, I didnt believe it... I thought something would go wrong, thats just how most Jet fans think after not winning since 69

Good point in that 2nd sentence. Going after players that can still play and make huge differences immediately. These really aren't your fathers Jets. The Parcells tree is really going to make being a Jets fan better.

I was really adamant about not getting Favre. Wow.

Last year when I seen the Pats having success with players such as Moss, Welker, Stallworth and A.Thomas... I was like WTF? Why dont the JETS go after any of these players! I was tired of being a fan of a team who never went out and competed for top FA's who can help the team win games! I guess last year wasnt the time for the Jets front office to make moves.

This year, we went out and got players such as Faneca, Favre, Woody, Jenkins, Pace and even Chatman... I guess I can say Im glad im not the owner of the Jets because I would go insane...Great job this year

This was a very interesting read for a "carpetbagger" like me. The threads all about Jets fan opinions of this while it was still a possibility not a reality, so I can have nothing to say there. However there is one set of comments that I am qualified to comment on:
Believe me I've heard & observed this "thought process" before, and talked it with others who have seen it here in WI too. I think the key point here is that -- from NYJATW's previous post in this thread -- NYJATW is a 19 year old guy living in Appleton WI, and so I bet "People in Wisconsin" is primarily "People in Wisconsin who are around 19 years old"

I'm live near NYJATW, but I'm in my 40s. But I also have a 22 year old nephew from Appleton who obviously has friends of that age (though he might be a little atypical as a fan because he is a college football player & appreciates durability and proven ability more). He and I were talking about the same time (mid July) about Wisconsin people's reactions to Favre wanting to come back, and we concluded that opinions broke a lot of times on the fault line of age. Younger fans (who he knew more about) were primarily not only ready, willing, and able to dump Favre, but also openly desired it. Older fans (who I know more) usually were not.

We older fans remember the 20 years before Favre arrived on the scene, when Green Bay Packers were openly referred to as the "Siberia of the NFL" (where you threaten to trade players to in order to keep them in line), and we watched a lot of highly touted QBs like Rich Cambell (6th overall pick 1981) who turned out to be busts once they finally got in there, and other QBs (e.g. Majikowski, Dickey) who were pretty good but 1) not spectacular, and 2) got injured (like 99.9% of all the rest of the starting QBs in the NFL, lol). So we have that appreciation that Favre was something rare, that for every Favre or Elway or Montana or Brady there are a thousand other QBs that are good yeah, but not great, and that although we might beat the odds and find Rodgers in the next Steve Young, it's more probably he is the next Scott Hunter or Jerry Tagge. Which is no knock on Rodgers, that's what most quarterbacks are; my point is not that Rodgers might not be great, it's that Favre is great, and last year proved he could still be great, and -- as Packer great LeRoy Butler once said -- younger Packer fans maybe have been "spoiled" by Brett Favre, they don't realize that most other teams, & most other eras of this team, have not had that luxury of high level consistency and stability, that it's lightning in a bottle, something should not be taken for granted that it can be recreated with the next guy, no matter how big his seeming potential.

If he's a NYJ fan he should be familiar with the difference between potential and reality in a QB :)
