Have you any specific examples? It's even worse business to let one of your employees - even a senior employee - tell you what coaches to hire and what free agents to sign. Or is that not what you meant? Yes, it would be very difficult indeed for anyone to prove that "poor management" was the reason Favre threw that stupid overtime interception to the only Packer receiver who was covered. Although I have to say, it would probably be amusing to hear someone try it. Yeah, pretty much the way it is at any workplace, right? When push comes to shove, the boss is the boss. That's the way it is where I work, I don't see any reason it shouldn't be the same way where Brett works. I wonder if you appreciate the irony of your position. The topic of this thread is an article which asserts that a big part of the problem in Green Bay was that Favre was treated too special. Most of the people defending Favre are saying that this isn't true, and that's an argument that (for the most part) I agree with. Yet here you are, arguing that the problem was that he wasn't treated specially enough. I'm not sure that's really the best argument in this particular circumstance. Might want to think it through a bit.
Favre didn't like the fact that he was lied to about how TT was going to give an interview to Mooch. He also didn't like it when TT lied and said that Favre didn't do anything to try to get Moss signed.
Very interesting points made in this thread. I hadn't heard any reasons until now as to why Favre had his own locker room. Using it to get away from the media makes sense. If anything, this kinda forces the media to pay more attention to his teammates than to Favre, and I'm struggling to see how this could be construed as another "look at me" moment for Favre. It seems that since the bad blood developed between Favre and TT in recent months, GB has done its best to release half truths about Favre to paint an unflattering picture of him. IMO that's the work of Ari Fleischer. He's been working the PR angle for a lot longer than people realize. Ted Thompson knew he had to make Favre look like the bad guy first if he was going to get rid of him. What are you talking about? Green Bay wasn't down for several years like you seem to be indicating. They had 10+ wins in 4 straight seasons from 2001-2004. They had a losing season in 2005 and then won 4 straight to finish off 8-8 in 2006. In '06 the young talent appeared to be coming together and left many people in packers nation very optimistic about the near future. By no means did the team have a lengthy down period that left us wondering about the team's direction. What player in their right mind would publicly make that type of statement?! Think about it!
Wow..who cares? I thought he was here to throw completions and tds. I really don't care what he does to accomplish that.
Like what? Favre's the one who's been trashing the team right and left throughout this whole mess. Thompson has taken the high road every step of the way, even when Favre went on national television and called his coach and general manager liars. What examples do you have of the team doing anything to paint an unflattering picture of Favre? Hell, they've barely even lifted a finger to defend themselves, let alone go on the attack themselves.
Do you really, really think for even a second that Aaron Fuckin Rogers would be a better QB than Favre for your team this year? If you don't then you have already answered your own question. It doesn't matter how suptle or how high the road is they chose to ride, they made complete and utter fools of themselves.
But that point I agree with. This article is a textbook example of a writer taking a lot of things that are true, and using them to prove something that is not. This guy should have been a lawyer. Yeah, I agree that Favre was coddled too much during the Sherman regime, but that doesn't exactly make him some sort of antichrist the way this guy is making him out to be. This is way over the top.
Could you make your point a little more clearly? I don't know what I'm supposed to counter here. It sounds like what you're saying is that simply by preferring to go with Rodgers instead of Favre this year, the team is trashing Favre, but there has to be more to your argument than that. What am I missing here? But just for the hell of it, to answer your question, yeah - you're damned right I'd rather have Rodgers playing quarterback than Favre this year, because Favre has proven he's a liability in the playoffs and gives the team almost zero chance of winning the Super Bowl, whereas Rodgers at least has not proven that yet. So right off the bat, yeah - Rodgers, even though he's unproven, still gives us a better chance to win in the playoffs than the superstar who's 3-7 in his last 10 playoff games, hasn't won more than 1 playoff game in the same season in over 10 years, has thrown as many postseason interceptions in the last 10 years as he has touchdowns, and who said himself just a few months ago "I don't want the ball in my hand anymore when the game is on the line". Yeah, Rodgers is the better choice for this team right now.
I don't care where he dressed in Green Bay, it doesn't matter now. Maybe a change of scenery and being the new guy in the room is what he needed, we'll see. What he does on the field will be the final judge.
Wild Thing, stop it. Please. This is a Jets forum, not a Packer forum. Take all this someplace else. Where it belongs. I've gotten tired of this whole topic and would just like to see everyone move along. But if a comment must be made, I think JetsLookingforDWare posted something as good as anyone has: Favre has ALWAYS given the love to Donald Driver and Jennings. And the whole team in fact. Maybe the only time the "media" has chosen to pay attention to what he said was when he said in 2006 that "this is the most talented team I've ever played on." And the media only jumped on that comment because they saw a chance to start calling him an idiot and/or crazy for thinking that. Oops they went 13-3 next year, maybe he wasn't such an idiot. But now of course the team has become too good for him to still play on it, says the media, they are better off without him ... you just can't win with these guys! Best to just ignore them when moronic things start coming out of their mouth.
only special treatment he's getting is from the same duche that writes this article. i hate ESPN. necessary evil.
Agree!!! He could change in the bathroom stall for all I care....To me it seems that he did it to make the media talk to his team instead of coming straight to him!
What? Specifically? Discussion of Brett Favre? We're not supposed to talk about Brett Favre here? That's news to me, I could have sworn that was the topic of this thread.
"Someone" on this thread is simply baiting people into anti- Favre crap. Please don't feed the TT loving troll please !!!
If you're that misinformed on the topic then why are you at a jets messageboard instead of a packers one? get a clue.
It is interesting when Favre haters/Thompson lovers feel the need to join a Jets forum just to bash him still. He's gone like you wanted, give it up, and move on.
