so fans that dont have season tickets should pay $50, $75 to see favre play 2 series?

the fans that did go, gave favre a loud standing ovation.

trust me peter king, come week 2, when were 1-0, our home opener, vs. the cheatriots, and favre's 'real home debut' it will be standing room only

NY sports fans are pretty knowledgable as a group. NYers tend to be less polite on the surface than most other fans, but once people from KC and Green Bay get comfortable with you, they can be just as dickish as NY are right out of the box.

Jet fans are the best, imo. That doesn't mean they are all perfect.

Ftr I don't count the corporate types who get their company to buy tickets and take a tax deduction in that.

AMEN BROTHA!!! We should all be banding together to find a way to make coffee boy feel like the worlds biggest hunk of shit. And we arent awful fans, we are passionate fans that expect the best out of their team, like all NY fans do. i dont think its wrong to want your team to win. sure, some fanbases are nicer and less vocal, but then again some fan bases are content with mediocrity. Derek Jeter said it best when he said "New York fans are the best because they wear their hearts on their sleeve. They praise you more than anyone, but will also grill you harder than anyone" what some of you call us being dicks, i call passion.:jets::jets::jets:

Some people just need to feel that they are a cut above the rest, even when it's sadly, pathetically untrue.

I woke in the mood for a tirade (ever just open your eyes that way?!), so I guess I'll spill my venom HERE. Upon further reflection, F this guy even more than yesterday. Forget about the pre-season slurs, they're less than meaningless. As to Jets fans being rude, you get all kinds at every football venue; but I'll take OUR rude over anyone else's. At least we do it right.

If he prefers to be in Bible Study, than he shouldn't go to a Jets game. For the most part, our fans are just fine, but I've said it before and I'll say it again: We're a quirky bunch with a quirky sense of humor. It's our unifying factor, and how can that NOT be in view of our never ending "you-just-can't-make-it-up" litany of unbelievable events? He just isn't in the Cool Club. I say we wing bottlecaps and peanuts at him all while we tell him to go F himself in true Shea Stadium fashion. That'll really give him something to write about.

And I'll take this one step further. I don't know why it hit me this way just now. Say what you want about New York, you turd, but the WTC disaster proved what we all already know about the people of NYC. Enough said.

    TMQ - Peter King Responds

Seems I touched a nerve here (item No. 4), criticizing Jets fans for not showing up to see their conquering hero in his New York debut. Let's give the angry masses their say, and then I'll respond:

    • From Jake Nichols, of Winston-Salem: "You're criticizing Jets fans for poor turnout? Don't preseason tickets cost the same as regular season? I can't get on anyone in this economy for not going to a game, let alone a preseason one. Who can afford it? Gas at $4 a gallon, bread at $2.25, milk at nearly $4 and you're going to razz people for not paying $50 bucks to sit in the nosebleeds and watch a guy for two series? Seriously?''

    • From Steven Fishman, of Plainview, N.Y.: "Congratulations on writing the single most ridiculous point in all your years of MMQB. I am a season-ticket holder to the Jets. What stuns me is last week, you specifically wrote about how absurd it is for NFL teams to force fans to buy tickets to MEANINGLESS preseason games. Now you mock Jet fans because they don't want to travel 2 hours and give up a wonderful summer evening to sit in a football stadium and watch Brett Favre play two series of football in a game that means nothing? Sorry, we are not Green Bay. This is not the only thing to do here. ... Football preseason games are pointless. It is a way for all the owners to fill up their stadium twice and nothing else matters. The average Jet fan does NOT live in New Jersey and the trip is long and not easy. The new construction and lack of parking makes it worse. Your statement should have been the opposite -- 35,000 fans for a meaningless preseason game is actually more impressive then you think. Please take back your dumbest comment ever. (But I still love your columns.)

    • From Patrick Alexander, of Chicago: "Not a Jets fan, but even if my team lined up Jesus, Confucious, Lao Tsu, Moses and Mohammed, I wouldn't show up to a lame pre-season game.''

Okay. Here are my five responses:

    1. I love the anger and the bitterness and the raw feelings. Shows you all care, which I appreciate, and I do appreciate your heavy response.

    2. Let's say in four years, when Kobe Bryant is considered one of the 10 best players of all time, he migrates to the Knicks in free agency, and the Knicks play their opening exhibition game at Madison Square Garden against the Wizards. You think there'd be an empty seat in the house? Dream on. That's what this is. Brett Favre, the legend, playing his first game outside of Green Bay after being the sole focus of the sports world for three weeks. I don't care if he plays 14 snaps -- which he did -- or 40. If you're a real Jets fan, and you've got tickets, and you're not out of town, you'd be there.

    3. The fans aren't doling out extra money to see this game. They've already paid for the tickets. We're talking about 45,000 season-ticket-holders who chose not to come to the game. They chose to say, "We'll stay home rather than experience one of the great moments in the recent history of our franchise.'' Sorry. I've got a problem with that.

    4. And to Steve, the season-ticket-holder from Long Island: It is a crime that you have to pay regular-season prices for these fraudulent games. You are being abused. I sympathize with you. But you've paid for the year, right? The tickets are in your possession, right? You've sat through so dismal days in the Meadowlands in recent years, right? I guess my question is: What's your level of devotion to this team, really, if you won't give up half of a Saturday to see Brett Favre quarterback your team on your home field with tickets you've already paid for, even if it's only for two series? Sorry. I don't get it.

    5. I take nothing back.

    ________________________

It's like he posted the comments, but didn't read them.

How do you compare a Knicks preseason game in MSG that seats 23K+ in Manhattan with the Meadowlands 77K+ in NJ. Furthermore, in basketball you can see the talent of the individual player even in preseason a lot better than 10 plays by QB where he hands off 40% of them.

Then he makes the "well, you already got f*cked by th organization, so you might as well go," completely ignoring all the other related costs.

And, he is just wrong that "one of the greatest moments in recent history" is Favre in a preseason game. People will want to see him in a regular season game. That is what they will tell their kids about. Not..."I watched him through a 4-yard TD pass to Dustin Keller in the preseason."

I really don't think King should be speaking for "real Jet fans."

I'm not siding with Peter King here, but this is just an observation on my part...

...but it appeared to me that Giants Stadium had more people in the stands at last night's game, then Saturday.

I don't have any actual numbers to confirm that, like I said, it was just an observation I made on my part yesterday. Quite frankly, I don't know what to make out of it.

I doubt Jets fan pack the stadium on a pre-season game regardless of a Super Bowl win. We won't really know until it happens, and maybe it's just me, but I just don't see it happening.

This wasn't the telltale sign regarding Jet fans...just one more piece of evidence that we're are among the bottom 10 fanbases in the league. This isn't the first time, and there is always an excuse. I know season ticketholders take offense, but it really isn't on the guys on this board...clearly you are passionate, but collectively, we are pretty sucky.

Yeah, I got that part. All i'm saying is, i still don't think the stadium will fill up on our 1st Pre-season home game after winning a Super Bowl. I guess we'll know what it actually happens, but I still think people will care even less about 1 Pre-season game knowing we're already coming off a Super Bowl year. That's just my opinion.

King's response might be a bigger insult than his original comment. I drove down from connecticut. its way more than a half day, the gas cost was nuts, and the ride home was miserable. King has absolutely zero idea what its like to go to a game as an average fan at this point. He can suck my ass
