The bigger question to me is why couldn't our dline manhandle the Cleveland offense like the NYG did today?

The pressure isn't there. We don't have 4 guys who are Pro Bowlers or Pro Bowl Alternates. Jenkins and Harris are two, but we need two more. Maybe Pace if he has a unfathomable year, and Gholston is going to have to pick it up now if we want 4 dudes who can do what they do.

That front 4 is reminiscent of what the Panthers had with Peppers, Jenkins, Rucker, and that other guy.

Also, we play an entirely different defensive scheme.

It's preseason, the only test is staying healthy. All I care about is our QB getting up to speed and getting him and the team ready for Week 1.

First off the Giants have an excellent, experienced OL in their system. For us our key to the DL is a brand new player playing a new position. Secondly we didn't have all of our starters against Cleveland. it's preseason, it means absolutely nothing.

We do but the facts that most people on this board ignore is the Giants are immensly talented at the point of attack on both sides of the ball and have been building toward this for several years.

I would hope that our coaching staff didn't lose sight of just how the Giants beat Dallas and the Pats. It was not with a BB designed pass defense to confuse Payton Manning, it was with a fast dominating pass rush with good athletes in the secondary.

When I hear how Gholston isn't looking good because he is being tought how to stay at home, my biggest fears are being realized.

At the same time, you don't want him to be a one-dimensional player. The element of doubt in the OL's mind can be vital.

While I am not saying that the Jets' dline will become like the Giants' (I may be biased, but I think the Giants have a special dline that won't easily be replicated) it can approach much higher levels of play than you saw before. Remember, they still have quite a bit of gelling to do before they can play as a unit.

I didn't think of that. You may be right. He is not confortable because he is not allowed to be by the CS and the philosophies in the playbook.

Let the kid fly to the QB 1st. Chris Samuels said this kid has immense raw power, so let Gholston show it. I've seen him attack the QB 7 times out of a good 30 snaps. Thats bullshit.

You can't have him in there to rush the passer. otherwise everyone would know when you are blitzing and where the blitz is coming from. He needs to learn the other things too, he needs to learn how to drop back and be a complete player.

Hixon was awesome last night... but I'd wait to pass judgement on him until we can see what he does against another defense... for example, ours.

I hoped we got this guy because he was a natural pass rusher. I would hope the DC puts him in position to be effective and as he gets more and more comfortable expands his package and teaches him the nuance of the position.

It's a fine line between the coaches putting a player in position to perform and the coaches demanding the player do things he isn't ready to do yet. After last years season it's clear we needed a talent upgrade and it seems we did a lot to add talent. I'm not totally convinced the coaching staff doesn't bear some of the responsability?

I'm looking forward to a good test (and tailgate!!)... and possibly (although it is preseason) a good indication on how this year is gonna turn out. If we can handle that pass rush, we can handle just about anything in the league with our new O line... should be a great test.

The only thing I REALLY want, is that no one gets hurt.

Exactly. Let him learn that aspect of being a LB when the games don't count. Let him make his mistakes now and learn from them.
