Yeah, Wright should make the team. He could possibly make the Pro Bowl one year as a special teams player.
After declaring Nuge on the bubble in the offseason (despite numerous reassurances), he is now outside the bubble looking in. I hope the FO brings in some competition. He hasn't ever instilled confidence that a team should have in a kicker. Where's our Nick Folk or Stephen Gostkowski?
He should have already made the pro bowl on special teams. He is incredibly good. He proved it again last night. People argue a lot over which is more important, offense or defense, well special teams is just as important as both, and he is our MOST valuable special teams weapon. And Mangini loves him. It would be super shocking if he was cut and he would last a millissecond on the waiver wire.
I can't envision Pociask making this team. We're already carrying Baker, Keller, and Franks, all of whom have relatively safe roster spots. Not to mention the fact that our long snapper, James Dearth, is also a TE. However, he'd definitely pass through waivers and make the practice squad. So I definitely don't think we've seen the last of him.
I do not think Pociask is eligible for the PS. Pociask is really a h-back and can serve double duty at TE and FB. He blocks as well as Franks. His catch and run really helped his cause last night, and he was a stand out in the offseason program again which means a lot to Mangini. I think we should drop Franks but we'll have to see. Jets have some tough decisions.
Second year guys are eligible for the PS. Since Pociask was IR'd for his first season, I don't know if he's technically a second or third year guy. So his ability to joing the PS is unclear. I like Pociask much more than Baker. Pociask has developed his pass catching ability over the off-season so I think he's a more complete player now. He was always a good blocker. And he definitely showed exactly what you want to see with that reception last night. The DB just bounced off of him and he kept on running.
I agree and it is nice to see the Jets with tough decisions to make. I think this regime has done a good job of building depth in a very short time.
There is no way Smith and Wright should both be ahead of Stuckey. I'm expecting Stuckey to be one of the 5 WR for sure.
I hear what you are saying but I doubt they will get rid of Franks. Favre loves the guy and I think the Jets will not want to get rid of him before Brett even plays a regular season game. (Although I totally agree with you that Pociask is better for the Jets at this point in his career than Franks is at this point in his)
That's a good point. He is a great special teams player. But I really think Stuckeyi is a better receiver. The Jets have really tough calls to make at the WR and TE positions. The depth at both positions is great and it looks like there will be a solid player getting left out of the mix.
I DVR'd the game and watched it again this morning. I tried to focus on Miller and I was not impressed. He was usually out of position and there were a couple running plays in which he just kind of danced around and let other guys tackle. On the other hand I was really impressed with Lowery. That guy was always around the ball and showed some great cover skills. His 4.59 40 time was all over Devin Thomas and his 4.32 on that long pass attempt. I'm thinking if Lowery keeps this up he may be taking over the #2 DB spot a lot sooner than expected. That won't put Miller on the bubble but will relegate him to kickoffs only. i really like the fact that we have guys who are making some good impressions so far in preseason. Guys like Murrell, Cummings, Lowery, Ratliff, Clowney, and Stuckey. I also liked what I saw from Marcus Henry last night. He has great size and great hands, a perfect weapon in the red zone. I'm thinking Paul Raymond and Inhegibo sealed their fates last night. Raymond needed that TD catch to have any chance to make the team, even a slight one. And the play by Inhegibo that cost us the game was just downright terrible. He gambled on the play and possibly on his roster spot.
i watched both the jets and vikes games on nfl network ( direct tv). bolly out-played clemmens by a wide margin, and he was a boobway 7th round pick as opposed to a 2nd round guy the new regime traded up to get. not exactly confidence inspiring.....:shit:
^ It was Ratliff (not bollinger) and the current regime picked him up as an undrafted free agent last year.
i saw the vikes game against the ravens also. bolly was a 6th or 7th pick back in the herm/boobway regime. the jets traded him to the vikes for c.j. mosley. the vikes head coach knew bolly from college.
If Dearth misses the cut than who's long snapping for us? I think I saw Schable doing some of that on Wednesday's practice but I could be wrong.
