New York Jets' Clowney injuries collar bone
    by Dave Hutchinson/The Star-Ledger
    Sunday August 17, 2008, 12:01 PM

Jets wide receiver David Clowney, who is having a sensational training camp and is the team's leading receiver in the preseason, suffered a collar bone injury that may sideline him for at least several weeks if not longer, according to someone with knowledge of the injury.

That person spoke on the condition of anonymity because he's not authorized to speak for the Jets or Clowney.

During the game, the Jets announced Clowney had a shoulder injury. Clowney, who was hurt in the third quarter on a 14-yard catch, is scheduled to undergo further tests today.

Clowney, who has eight catches for 222 yards and two touchdowns this preseason, has emerged as the surprise of training camp and the speedy deep threat the Jets have been searching for.

Last week, the former Packer draft pick had four catches for 163 yards and two touchdowns (70 and 71 yards) vs. the Browns. He had four catches for 59 yards before being injured vs. the Redskins.

Baaahhh not good at all. I'm guessing he ends up on the IR if this is the case. Bad end to a good preseason for the kid.

Yeah that is terrible. Hopefully he will be back with the team soon and made enough of an impact to make the regular squad.

Damn, I was hoping he'd be the slot receiver.

Total bummer. I hope it's premature and he comes back sooner. If not, our depth we've been debating looks pretty fortunate now.

Was hoping to not have to see that waste of space Brad Smith on the field this year.

Crap, he looked like he was going to be the Jets' deep threat for Favre. I hope he gets better soon.

Well, this opens up the spot for Stuckey, I guess.

Put him on the PUP, and we'll see you in 8 weeks, Dave.

Has anyone ever had a broken collar bone (I'm assuming it's broken)? How long do they take to heal? This sucks.

Ah, this really sucks. He was having such a great pre-season. It didn't look to bad last night, especially since he was walking around on the sidelines after the fact, with no medical attention really.

I wish him a speedy recovery and hope he can contribute to this Jets team, because chances are, he was going to make it on the 53 man roster if he continued to play the way he has for the next few weeks before the season starts.

In reality, our slot reciever is basically Keller anyway.

Yeah, hopefully that's how it goes. It'll keep the slot open for someone else, and worst case they throw him on IR if he isn't back where they want him to be.

A shame though, I think he was going to be an exciting weapon with Favre!

He MIGHT be able to play late in the season. That's a tough injury for a guy who has to extend his arms on every catch. And the chance of reinjuring it in a tumble with a CB is pretty high if he comes back too early.

I'd guess it's at least PUP and maybe even IR.

Collarbones actually heal stronger than they were before unlike many bones. I had a compound fracture of my collarbone in high school and this is what my doctor told me. So once healed little chance of re-injury. It depends on severity but he could be ready in 4 weeks meaning that he would only miss the first or second game. If this is true, the Jets may well not put him on the PUP or IR. I hope this is the way to go. Yes he is fast, but he also seems to get OPEN, so the Jets need to do what they can to have him part of the mix.

Henry looked good last night too. Which also makes things more complicated. Raymond I think will make it to the PS, but Henry may not. If Clowney's collar bone is more severe there is a chance he could get IRed just on a numbers game at WR.

We wont know anything more though until final cuts probably.

A healing time of 4 weeks is very optimistic. Especially to be ready for a contact sport like football.

    from Wikipeida:

For adults, healing time—four to six weeks. After two to three months the clavicle strengthens, generally regaining its former full strength after half a year.

    That sounds more like IR.
