Kellen looked so bad and Ratliff looked so good, is it possible Kellen had been bumped to #3 QB by the plane ride home?

I feel we should trade or cut him ASAP and go with Favre, Ratliff & Ainge.

Both Ratliff and Ainge could learn behind Brett and the winner could be the QB when Brett leaves.

Yes I had hoped for the best when we drafted Kellen but I was never happy. The list of QBs we have let slip through are fingers the last three drafts is unreal. If we had drafted any one of the numerous good QBs we skipped in the last three years we wouldn't have needed to trade for Favre. Yes I am glad we have him but that is beside the point.

The FO was getting Favre to save their ass for a while longer.

I really like the prospect in Ainge but this game Ratliff opened my eyes quite a bit. He was calm and poised in the pocket, and more in control that Chad or Kellen looked all last season.

Yes I know they were the 2nd, 3rd & even 4th tier guys he played against but in his defense they were our 2nd, 3rd & 4th level guys he played with.

Even though this is the first real action I have seen Ratliff I do judge it slightly higher being an "NFL" pre-season game than I do all the time I've seen Ainge in "college" level games.

I feel that Kellen has sealed his own fait and he may be following Chad out the door. Neither Ainge nor Ratliff would make it to the Practice Squad before being picked up, so if we want them we will have to keep them on the 53 man roster. I feel it is highly unlikely we will keep 4 QBs.

I feel the Kellen experiment will soon be over. If not this season, then next season for sure.

With the uncertainty of Favre staying for 2-3 years you can't cut the guy. I think he will be the backup this year and still be with the organization next year as well.

He won't be cut, but clearly based on performance, he is behind Ratliff.

I look at Ratliff as an heir apparent for Favre. He's a young kid who has shown a lot of promise, that is currently sitting behind one of the three best qb's of all-time.

I think they should cut him just this minute. Don't even think twice about it. Even though Ainge had finger surgery and will probably be put on the injury reserve. I think we should let Ratliff start over Farve since he has one good preseason game under his belt. Please name all of the quaterbacks drafted in the last 3 years that would have made our franchise any better at this point?

I thiink ratliff will be Favre's heir apparent as well. However Ratliff still needs to prove himself during pre-season against a top defensive squad.

The amount of playing time Ratliff gets the next game will give us some big insight. If he gets more time than Kellen, it will be clear Kellen has lost another roster spot or very close to losing one. If Kellen gets less time than both Ainge and Ratliff it might just indicate the Kellen experiment is coming to a close. You don't draft a guy that high in the draft to let him sit at the 3rd QB spot into his 3rd season. If he can't hold his own at #2 then he is going, going, gone.

Starting caliber QBs drafted in the last three years who the Jets let slip by.

    2006 Draft
    Matt Leinart (Starter)
    Jay Cutler (Starter)
    * Vince Young (We could have moved up if we really wanted)

    2007 Draft
Brady Quinn (Sitting behind a Probowl QB)

    2008 Draft
Matt Ryan (Not my top choice but we could have moved up.)
Joe Flacco *(The guy even the Jets wanted but they gambled and lost. He will turn out to be a much better NFL player than Gholston.)

That is not all but six of the QBs who could easily have been our starting QB this season.

It's a bit early to anoint Ratliff the second-string QB. Clemens has several NFL starts under his belt. I'd feel better if Clemens takes the snap from center and kneels when the Jets are up 43-14 in the 4th quarter, thank you very much...

Let's remember that it is only the first preseason game of the season, and only a preseason game at that. Plenty of time still left to see if we should keep Clemens.

Well, you could say any QB that actually played even a down as Clemens was the worst QB statistically in the league last year so anybody else would have had to be better.

All it takes is Ratliff to go out there next Saturday and hand the ball off to someone on the Redskins and everyone will go from thinking he's the future to thinking he won't even make the team.

it was only a preseason game for one and by the second quarter none of the main starters are in or even played in the game for that matter.. though ratliff did look pretty impressive we still gotta give Kellen a chance because he never got a fair shot living in chads shadow then the brett favre trade... he has never really been in a game situation were he had decent blocking and all they other intangibles so lets not abandon ship so quickly.

While i'm not enamored, with Clemens, you can't get rid of him.
let's face it, Favre is playing only this year. If we get 2 years, it'll be a big suprise.
I'm not convinced Clemens is our future, but i'm not ready to toss him, either.
Next season we are going to need another veteran, if Favre hangs it up.
I DO NOT, want to expose Ratliff to the possibility of being picked up, by someone else. I like the scenario, of another poster, who said Ainge would probably go on IR, and Ratliff would be #3 QB.

During the Browns game they kept showing Favre and Kellen talking. Never once did i see Brett and Brett talk. I assume this is because Kellen knows more about how the offense works.

    Good point!

Let's think straight for a minute: Clemens was an important Tangini draft choice for Tangini. You wanna give up on Clemens? Then show those two the door. Otherwise, show a bit of paience please.

I doubt they want to give up on one of their own too quickly.

I doubt it. Ratliff looked good against a ton of backups. Unless Kellen continues to falter and Ratliff continues that type of work for awhiile things will saty how they are. the good thing for us is we have a year or two now to see how they both, as well as Ainge, come along.

Fine! I agree. You convinced me.

    Now convince Tangini.

Of course, they will change their mind about the depth chart based on a single exhibition game! Especially if you explain it to them.
