*sigh* Sure I can count how many times Penny has gotten us to the playoffs on one hand...but i would need another set of hands to count how many times he's thrown a crippling INT in the 4th quarter and how many times his ass got sent to the IR. I'm not looking to get Favre for more than 2 years....the guy is pushing 39 years of age. My point was that the Jets are in a win-now mode....we'll squeeze Favre for a year or two, and then draft his replacement in a couple of years....Clemens hasn't inspired anybody, and Pennington is a failure.
Gotta agree on this. A First is too much to give up at this point. I don't think we are a Brett Favre away from a superbowl.
Can't do a first. There's a very good chance the season goes to hell with Favre, our only salvation from there would be a top 5 pick. If we don't even have that coming down to the end of the season it would be an all-out disaster.

i would likely part with a 3rd in 09 and a conditional 2nd in 10...... but these are the jets and are they allowed to have a "legend" on the team?? IMO - the rub off on clemens may be worth a pick itself. jil
This. Except I think calling Pennington a "failure" is too simplistic. He was a great quarterback who underwent two shoulder surgeries. It's amazing that the guy manages to even compete, considering the injuries, but his upside no longer gets you deep in the playoffs.
I'm not in love with Tanenbaum, but I don't think he has the capacity to author a blunder at Isiah's level. Few people have said capacity, to be fair.
he's a fighter...and a great leader. But really, what did Penny accomplish in NY? Earning a Comeback player of the Year award does nothing for me. :wink:

Chad Pennington in 2002 was arguably the best quarterback in the league. Only Rich Gannon came even close that year.
True, but Isiah has scarred me for a while. Bad teams giving up first round picks usually leads to further disaster. First round picks were created for bad teams.
IS-- Would be very shocked if they gave up a 1st. The Front Office is very methodical if nothing else -- MT is a business guy first. It would make no sense to "risk it all" on Favre for the future (i.e. No 1 pick). HOWEVER, the way the NFL is -- a 2nd round pick doesnt bother me -- you can always get another one -- and this is football -- you can build for one year. A second round pick for a top 10 starting qb is fine with me.
