I wrote the Jets the following:

While I can try to be much more eloquent -- and lengthy -- I just want to tell you the following: NO PSL TAX!! The PSL tax is inherently unfair. Although I believe PSL's are always a money grab -- these proposed PSL's do not give any extra benefit to ticket holders. PSL's usually confer rights of first refusal to a PSL holder. Here there will be no such benefit. PSL's are unfair and burdensome on the people who spend their own hard earned money (not corporate slush money) to buy the tickets and come to the games. The Jets will make more money now -- but they will erode their fan base by making the games impossible to afford -- and will pay the piper later.

The Jets responded -- and i assume that most of you got this as well -- the following canned response. I note the reference to the "financing plan." Also, look at the NY Times article today about the Giants PSL -- which is 80k (not sure if thats per seat or not) in the lower section.

"Thank you for your years of support. Jets fans are the most passionate in sports. Your concerns are very important to us and something we take seriously. Your thoughts will help us develop a range of options for seating, pricing and amenities in our new home. Once our financing plan is developed, we hope that you take the time to look it over.
Thanks again for your dedication to our team.
    Go Jets!"

Big deal a "financing" plan in my case financing plan or no financing plan I still have to give them 60Gs to retain my seats. For sure I am NEVER going to EVER give a BILLIONAIRE 60Gs of my money for the pleasure of watching a FB team that has won nothing, nada, zilch since 01/12/69. My grandchildren can far more benefit from that 60Gs then Mr. BILLIONAIRE Wody Johnson

That last part is just so stupid. "We hope that you take the time to look it over." I'm fairly sure that won't be a problem if they are charging thousands extra per seat.

I love those paint by numbers auto responses.

Sorry to say, your letter probably got lumped in a pile with hundreds of others.

I hope I am wrong, but that response looks too automatic.

Haha, this reminds me of a great short story I read when I was in my teens. I'm going to be up all night now trying to remember the author and the name of it. This guy writes a letter of complaint, and keeps getting responses with his name misspelled - every time - along with cookie cutter niceties that have nothing to do with his complaint. Towards the end of the story, he finally writes: "F*CK YOU. I AM GOING TO HUNT YOU DOWN AND KILL YOU IN YOUR SLEEP." "Dear Mr. X: Thank you for your kind words of support. We look forward to hearing from you in the future."

    That's pretty funny....

All I can think of is the dreaded...."Please hold, your call is very important to us...."

    Yeah, right.

Well, again, it could end up that he's just holding your money for a few years, because the Giants plan says you can sell the PSL in starting in 2011....and, again, it's also possible that you can make money on the deal. The better the seat, it IS possible that the demand is higher. It's the same principal as when you buy a house. If you spent 300k as opposed to 200k 15 years ago, that could mean a difference of half a million when you sell it now...or more.

I hope a lot of people agree with you and act on it. What a slap in the face if the Jets don't even sell out the stadium after all this BS.

I know this has a 0% chance of happening, but could you imagine if Woody got tired of the bad publicity the PSLs bring and backed out, leaving the Giants looking like the bad guys?

Woody didn't make more money than the Catholic Church by getting tired of pending money and backing out.

Trust me if the NYJs adopt the NYGs pricing policy my seats would cost 5G per seat X 12 seats = 60Gs. The only way we will retain them is if our renters want to pony up the PSL fee which is extremely doubtful. We have already decided not to give Mr. Billionaire Woody Johnson one red cent of our money. My sons kids & my grandkids come many, many many moons ahead of Mr. Billionaire Woody Johnson

    Responses:

    1. I recognize that this was a "canned response" -- but I think that there is "some" value in EVERY season ticket holder sending an email and telling them "no."

    2. If the jets raise my tickets from $80 to $120 -- I would "bite the bullett" and pay the difference. If the jets are charging me an extra 20k or up -- I have no choice but to walk away. Its just a matter of economics.

    3. The question about the psl is: in 5 years is there going to be a demand -- that people who do not have seats will pay the psl (plus inflation) price? I dont know.

    4. Will the Jets sell 80,000 with a psl? Do they care? In a way they benefit if they only sell 70,000 with a psl and 10,000 are available every game -- b/c they can say that the "regular people" still get to buy tickets.

I did the same and got the same response......people were also busting my chops telling me it was a canned response....like i didn't know this

I'm glad to see others writing in too......that's the point. Unfortunately I think as Jets fans in the intenet age, we really ought to be able to organize a little more effectively.

Every season tix holder on this site who is complaining about the prospect of PSL ought to be writing in also.

The thing with the Jets is......this "investment" is a huge risk.or a least a bigger one than say, a Giant PSL......no guarantee you'll be able to make a profit on this if you decide to sell it in a few years........moving training camp off of LI isn't going to help either, I do think a good portion of the NYor LI based fans are going to jump ship on PSl's

That is a VERY good point indeed. There is probably a small contingent of loyal Jets fans in the Hempstead area that still go to games. I know there are many from Staten Island.

Now, with the price of gas and the tolls going up over the bridges, PLUS the PSLs piled on AND the escalated ticket prices, these poor bastards are going to be throwing in the towel quicker than Sonny Liston did vs. Cassius Clay.

Some bean counter in the FO has to be looking at this and going... hmmm... wait a minute here... We're going to have people bailing, so maybe we'd better hold it down.

yeah and you could also have gotten caught trying to make money off a house with a 2 year arm and oh wait what happened to the hundreds of thousands of homes that went DOWN in value over the last 5 years. yup FORECLOSURE.

there are WAY too many ifs in that scenario. and anyone who buys these thinking they are going to make money off them in the future is silly imo. i can think of alot better things to put 60-80k into that will guarantee me growth.

You summed it up right there...while I live in CA and will never be a season ticket holder I commiserate with everyone who is. They have to open their eyes and realize that most people are having a damn hard time just putting gas in the tank and food on the table. Costs are going up everywhere on necessities...and a season ticket is NOT a necessity when little johnny sits over there and is hungry. I think PSL's are a disgusting slap in the mouth...especially when you consider the damn league is already, what, a $7-8 billion dollar entity already. Hell, I'm gonna write them for my fellow Jets fans....regardless whether or not I have or intend on getting season tickets.

    Peace!

    The Mezz

the thing is, and I've probably said it a hundred times already, it wouldn't be so bad if it astually were a PSL......i.e. you got first crack at every event held at the stadium, football games, concerts whatever.that's really the only benefit of a PSL to me.....and we don't even get that.

and I'm one of the jackasses that hauls out to NJ from Long Island for games......and I wouldn't even consider myself in the "Hempstead area" if I were going from there it wouldn't be that bad
