Read Peter King's MMQB about the favre situation. im tellin you they are definitely on a sales call of sorts right now. they are trying to sell favre the jets franchise as a destination. this is a matter that is important enough to cancel a day of training camp for. the weather is a non-factor, they definitely would have said if it was team-building to keep us from going nuts, and they do need the staff there because the more people they bring to favre, the more he feels like they care. this is why the letter wasnt sent by favre, this is why he didnt report yesterday. he held off because this was planned. i know i sound like a wacko conspiracy theorist right now, but it all fits together and all makes sense. i would not be surprised in the slightest if there was a major announcement tonight. really wish i was that espn report before i posted. kinda think its bs though and is a decoy to keep us from freaking out.
Again, I just look at the statement Favre made yesterday saying he was going to wait a couple more days before reinstating, coupled with the surprise cancelling of both practices today as more than coicidental. When one consideres all the things that would have to be accomplished on our side for this to be a good deal, I could easily see why practice today would have been cancelled: 1. There is no way we would ever give up a 1st or 2nd round pick for Favre 2. We would start to get interested if we got down to the 3rd round or by adding trade players, we could get the draft pick compensation down. 3. We would definitely have to get rid of Pennington and possibly Baker to get this done. 4. The Packers may not want either of the players offered in #3 5. Tanny would then have to work very hard at getting deals done with other teams for the players mentioned in order to make cap room for a Favre deal. I think as the clock ticks this thing gets more intriguing. I think the main hurdle that would have had to have been bridged is setting a true relaistic value on the 39 year old Favre. GB wanting a 1st round pick for him is just plain ridiculous. Even a secound rounder is debatable. He is Favre, but for all practical purpouses, the guy is 39 years old in a sport where you are considered an old man when you are in your very early 30's. I think something is happening. I still think everything could fall through. While I think Tangini wants Favre, I also think they absulutely will not overpay for him.
It's so blatently obvious what's going on here..... Mangini is serving up Steakums and milkshakes at his house and letting the guys enjoy a dip in his swimming pool. Either that or he let them hit up Bar A on the Jersey Shore.
No way. This off day was planned right from the beginning. It was scheduled as a "closed" practice so the media especially and fans would not show up and be pissed when they learned it was cancelled.
I don't buy into the reduced workload theory at such an early stage of TC although anything is possible. Perhaps more likely is that Mangini, Tanny and maybe several of the newly signed free agents such as Faneca have taken a trip aboard Woody's jet to sit down with Brett, his family and his agent for a combination sales job, love fest, negotiation session. Due diligence indeed.....
I don't think this is a "Favre Day" like a lot of people are making it out. Just seems like Mangini is trying an experiment with frequent rest. I'm sure this won't be the last time it happens. Don't forget that these players are expected to come into camp in phenominal physical condition. Even with days off I doubt we get a Herm like start of the season under Manginis watch.
I love it... when Mangini cracks the whip all week long all you hear is people whining about how he's going to lose the team, shoot morale, and over-fatigue them... then the guy cuts a couple of practices and the chorus chant of camp marshmallow picks up. No pleasin' Jet fans...
I live in Boston, a city that has won 6 championships this decade, and all everyone is doing is bitching about Manny Ramirez. Goes to show ya that sports fans are never satisfied, and that's the way it should be in my opinion. Anyway, can't wait for more news on Tangini's whereabouts. I keep refreshing espn.com every 5 minutes.
Given our crappy season last year, it just irks some of us that he's already taking it easy, including the reduction in practice length and now eliminating one entire day of practices. The Giants, Pats and a few other teams could afford such moves- I don't think that our boys in green and white should be taking it easy just yet.
How hard they worked or didn't work last season in training camp had little to do with our win loss column. We simply didn't have the horses to win regardless last year. I trust Mangini is going to run a tough camp that will have everyone ready. He hasn't given me any reason to doubt his ability to have the team conditioned and ready to play.
Couldn't there be an argument that the emphasis on strength and conditioning last year wasn't great enough, which in turn led to some of the injuries we saw?
Actually an interesting read, just from the standpoint that King was actually in Mississippi talking with Favre this weekend and according to his #8 things he knows, Jets should be down in Mississippi "Monday" to try and kiss his ass. Quite a coincidence. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/writers/peter_king/07/28/mmqb/1.html
He probly cancelled it so he didn't have to do these post match Brett Favre quizzes. It seems a little odd that he decided to give them the day off, but it sounds stranger to me that our whole day of working towards getting ready for the season is cancelled to accomodate Brett Favre needing to feel the love from the Jets. That sounds beyond ridiculous to me, hell i want Favre here but i think this is just Jets fans desperate for a thread of hope to cling on to that we wont be going into the season with KC or CP over- reacting to something trivial like Mangini wanting to keep his players fresh and happy by giving them the day off. But hey this is a forum so keep the theories flying, why not hey......
I listened to Tanna at 7.45am on the Fan this morning and although he was a bit coy about the Favre speculation, if his performance with Boomer and Carton was part of a cloak and dagger excersise to bring in Favre he deserves a part in the next James Bond film.
