Dude, I just spit my coffee all over my keyboard, thanks. I can't believe you'd defend Chad to your dying breath and have the guff to call Favre overrated.

As much as I was against the Favre thing at 1st..... his indecisiveness, future of the team, etc etc..... when I heard the news on the radio I literally got goosebumps.

It might be a total disaster, but so has my lifetime of watching the JETS for 30 years. F-it, at least it'll be interesting :)

Who else were they supposed to get? There was no one in FA this year worth a damn. And until very recently Favre was "retired".

How do I defend Chad to my dying breath? I'm just rational and fair, unlike you guys.

Favre is great, way better than Pennington, but at this stage he's mostly ESPN hype and he's living off of 1996. He's had one good year in the past five or six and people think he's taking the New York Jets to the Super Bowl by simply showing up. That to me is overrated.

Please find one example of that in this thread.

I'll save you some time: there is none. Stop making things up to make an illogical argument seem coherent.

They have had three off seasons to replace Pennington.

Totally interesting! Tampa Bay plays the Packers, so I'm thinkin that, if the Jets have what Green Bay wants, Favre is coming to NY!!! Please G-d :)

Wouldn't bailing on Clemens to get Favre be the definition of rooting for the team? Favre is clearly superior to all of the QBs on the Jets roster and, thus, would make the team better. So, shouldn't all Jets fans be rooting for Favre to be in green by the end of the weekend?

I see that sacrificing those 2 goats last night is paying off.....C'mon Tannenbaum, bring Favre in.

for the Chad supporters out there....get your head out of your asses. The time is now for us to win...we need a bonafide starting QB....i don't see one on our roster right now....Favre will give us the best chance to win....bottomline.

According to Football Outsiders, which features statisticians who know a lot more about player evaluation than either one of us, here are Brett Favre's rankings among all NFL quarterbacks over the last six years:

    2002: 14
    2003: 10
    2004: 5
    2005: 10
    2006: 14
    2007: 3

So, a quarterback who has been in the top half of the league every season for the last six years (and Top-10 4 times, Top-5 twice) now has only had one good year in the last six.

Is that your argument? I just want to clarify.

As much as I think it is a bad long term move to bring in Favre, I'll root for whoever is under center on Sunday, whether that's Clemens, Pennington, Favre, Ainge, Ratliff, or Jeff George. If the Jets feel he is the best bet for this team now and tomorrow, then go for it. Just please don't give up a 1st round pick in the process.

actually edge72 makes a good point....i don't want to give up the farm (a 1st round pick in this case) for Favre....plus, he would have to be committed to playing longer than 1 season for this scenario to have any value, imo.

The simple question to answer is this...

Will the Jets have a better chance of going to the SB with Favre or Clemens/Pennington?

If the answer is Favre, go get him assuming the price is reasonable.

I am not sure what there is to debate here. I'll leave the contract stuff to Tannebaum, but assuming he keeps his current deal, the Jets could have two years of Favre, trade Pennington and let Clemens learn from Favre / draft another QB.
