The more I think about this, the more I like the idea that the Jets let Mara and Tisch make egocentric fools of themselves and jump on the PSL bandwagon so quickly. The Jets are better off observing what absolute idiots they're going to make of themselves when the Shiite finally hits the fan. In fact, the whole Giants thing could come to a screeching halt when the public realizes how many people are going to want the Uppers at $1,000. They may have to readjust their numbers to expand the number of cheaper PSL seats or scale down the $20,000 prices to make them more palatible, or both.

Then there's also the pending proposal in the works to ban the sale of PSLs. If put forth, they may have to wait until that's resolved or been voted on, not to mention that this gives ticketholder consumer advocates additional time to do a study on the feasability of a class-action lawsuit.

Pile it on, fellas. I'm going to enjoy watching this develop into a three-ring circus.

I wonder if somehow legislation were put through to ban the sales of PSLs how that would affect ticket holders for other teams that have already paid for PSLs? That would be a big deal nation wide.

I'm cracking myself up. This is gonna be better than going to an actual game... watching the f*cking Giants make complete @ssholes of themselves. It's too rich... it really is. $20,000 for some seats and $1,000 for others? WTF did they expect everybody in the stands to do, opt for the $20,000 seats? Uh... yeah... uh-huh.

Well, if you own the PSLs, it won't matter whether he gives consent or not or knows or not. Those are your tickets in your name and you can do whatever you want with them.

I just hope 314 doesn't mind me taking those seats in front of him. I'm gonna have to promise him I won't be wearing any of those big, funny looking Jets hats.

I'm assuming this proposed bill is NJ only. Nationally, it's probably a state-by-state thing as to what they allow. But that brings up an interesting point:

Does anyone know if any other PSLs have been sold in the state of NJ? Is this the first time? Are there any other venues for which ticketholders have had to purchase PSLs prior to buying tickets? I'm not aware of any.

The more I think about it, the less likely I will be to contribute one dollar to this mess. I'll go back to the second hand market. It would take years of paying well above face value to even out dumping thousands up front and being committed to buying tickets at pumped up prices. Anyone see the last few home games we had? A sea of red seats inside, me and about five other guys grilling outside.

I have the Sunday Ticket on DirecTV, might as well get more of my money's worth there and hit a few games per year at my choosing instead of being stuck trying to move these things on a cold day to watch a bad team. The market will come back down if it ever goes up as high as they want it to in the first place.

Direct tv contract with the Sunday Ticket is up after 2009.
what kind of demanding price will the ticket ask from Direct Tv or its new provider?
verizon, time warner cablevision will all be bidding hard or their services knowing full well half of us season ticket holders will not have seasons anymore and looking to add the package.

so i can see nfl ticket being $1000 itself.

If this kind of bullshit goes on all over the NFL the NFL is going to lose a lot of customers. It is already picking up a bad name.

You know, this is a great point. If you really must have season tickets, it's VERY possible some of these PSLs will hit the market at BELOW face value a couple of years after they come out. The Giants are allowing the sale of theirs to begin in 2011, I believe.

Watch and see how many hit the market all at once if they have a 4-12 season. People will be bailing on those high ticket prices like there's no tomorrow. It might pay to hit the "secondary market," as you say... eBay... Stubhub, etc., for your ticket needs for the next 3 years.

Or, better yet, like somebody else said. Take the PSL money and invest ina good home entertainment system... get the Direct TV, the whole works. Hell, for this kind of money, you could bring in a freakin' caterer every Sunday afternoon and still be ahead of the game.

That's what I thought. All the more reason to nip it in the bud.

If the Giants get away with it, other venues will follow. You'll be paying PSLs for concerts, hockey games, theatre tickets. The state of NJ will even get on the bandwagon... going to the Garden State Arts Center? ... uh... first you're going to need to buy a PSL.

    Ridiculous consumer ripoff.

Ah IMHO it is time to stop with the rants etc. It is what is & NOTHING you me or any season tix holder says will mean anything in the ultimate end. Have you seen any major uproar or revolt from the NYGs season tix holders? In my case my hit would be 60Gs 12X5Gs for the PSLs & if the NYJs adopt the NYGs plan as posted my son & I decided to write Woody a letter thanking him for giving us fans 9 years of non championship ownership (includes this upcoming season also). We have also advised our renters that if the NYJs go down the same route as the NYGs concerning the PSLs that they will have to look elsewhere for the tix to the games if they want to continue to see them live & in person. Best to move on to other things then continuue to moan & groan & give Woody 60Gs based on the NYGs plan to watch the NYJs play losing & non championship FB. We will continue to enjoy the games on DirectTV until the NFL figures a way to take that away from us as well.

NFL sunday ticket will change the same year as our PSL go into affect.sunday tickets contract is up with direct tv and there will be one hell of a bidding war for its services between cable providers.

thus the winner of the bidding war will turn around and charge an arm & a leg for the sunday ticket, and will get it too b/c most of us will be ass out of season tickets.

You should copy the base of the letter here so other NJ residences can send a letter to their assemblymen as well.

Don't know if the NFL will do this, but they could actually stop the NFL granted monopoly that Direct TV currently has in the future. They could increase their total revenue by allowing cable, Direct TV, and the Dish Network, and perhaps other outlets to all provide the Sunday Ticket. This could (in theory) increase the NFL's total take.

If that's the case then the Sunday Ticket prices shouldn't be raised too much because now people would have a choice of which outlet (cable, Direct TV, Dish Network) they choose for their standard TV watching. The competition between these outlets could keep the Sunday Ticket costs down.

Right now if you want the Sunday Ticket you have to use Direct TV. As it is the Sunday Ticket is about 33% of my yearly DTV bill (if you get a lot of Movie Channels it will be less of a percentage). If Sunday Ticket were offered on other outlets then Direct TV will have to fight for the business of football fans instead of just being able to raise the rates without the consumer able to go anywhere else.

Of course, this is probably more wishful thinking than hardcore economics :-(.

And IMHO they will have to pry my cold, dead fingers from that plastic seat bottom before I stop ranting!

BTW... if you think Giants fans are not pissed, you're wrong. You should have heard the Giants callers on the Carton show the other day.

This string has been revelatory. A round of applause for the incisive posters who have been teasing out the implications and scenarios possible should the NYJ follow in the footsteps of the NYG. I inherited my 2 tickets in section 132 row 24 from my cousin who had them forever. If the Jets follow the Giants' pattern I think it would cost me 40K for the license and perhaps 10K each season for the tickets. Is that correct or have I misread it? Should that be the case I would approach other people in the family first to see if they can pick up on them but I doubt that the others will be in a position to do this either. What bothers me is having such great seats and then being evicted from them after I had honored the lease in every respect. I am tempted to soften the blow by putting the tickets and license purchasing power up for auction on ebay if it came to that. Can I do this? Might it be worth it? What, realistically, could I hope to get for the license rights - presuming someone wants to buy them. Section 227, Row 5 and the rest of you, please keep this up. When the Jets' proposition is offered I wanted to understand what is involved on a short and long term basis. Thanks guys.

Yeah, and the Giants just won the Super Bowl. I honestly think the Jets are overestimating their market here, especially since the Giants are tapping into the same market at the same time. The Giants have an older, wealthier fan base, a much longer waiting list and a better product. They will pull it off, I'm not so sure about the Jets.
