H'mm so whats the big deal? We did lose that game 56-3 right? Are you attempting to reverse a historical fact? If not what is your goal or the point you are trying to make by beginning this thread?
You can't go wrong assuming the worst about the Pats. Kraft is a scumball, ever since he took over, and yeah yeah sure they have had their success, mostly imo attributable to Brady and probably a good helping of cheating thrown in, but the classlessness is in a whole new league, a new level. It is in all seriousness disgusting.
We gave up 28 in the Tampa win, it was our most points scored but not our biggest margin of victory. I believe our 45-3 win vs. Houston in 1988 was our largest margin of victory but either way neither of these 2 great blowouts would be one of our best games ever and we don't have the SB history that NE has. '88 Hou Buf 45-3
There are only 2 great games in NYJ history & they are in order 1) Beating the Colts in SB3 2) Beating the Raiders in the AFL Championship game in Dec 68 They are the only GREAT games as they are the only games that counted for anything. All of you that NEVER saw these games are just deluding yourselves with mythical "great" games that you make up that meant exactly NOTHING to us besides being just another win
I know what you're saying Champ, and in a cold, literal sense you are right. But in an emotional, sentimental, human world wins have to count for something, whether or not they lead to a Super Bowl, otherwise there's just no point in following a team. Not the Jets anyway... Isn't it a bit like saying that going out with a beautiful woman for three years means nothing unless you marry her? You can still have a lot of fun before it goes belly up, right? And it can still mean something. Lots of Jets wins really stick in my mind for various reasons and you can't say they meant nothing to me, because they did and they do.
Without a doubt the Pats are my most hated team in the whole NFL - even more so than Miami; I have angst for Miami but I boil when I think about the Pats and the arrogant owner Kraft. It's funny, but even though Buffalo is in the same division as the Jets, they don't bother me. I don't know why. Of course if they beat the Jets I won't like it but it won't hit me as hard as losing to Witch Kraft or Miami.
I hadn't fully appreciated Kraft's role in the classlessness of the organization until I saw him give the game ball to Beli-cheat upon the first Pats victory after Spygate was revealed. He had never ever given the game ball to Beli-cheat before then and to first do so at that moment was to implicitly support the cheating that his head coach was undertaking. Totally classless organization.
The Jets (already eliminated) victory over the Patriots at Shea later that year eliminated the Patriots...the second meeting was more meaningful and any true Patriots fan would remember that. The 56-3 score looks great and the Patriots front office figures nobody would care enough to research what happened at the end of that season....screw 'em
This post makes no sense. A great game is a great game. Each game is it's own entity. It's got a ticket, a tailgate, etc etc. A team not winning the Super Bowl doesn't change the fact that the team had a great come from behind win in week 3, for example. It's a football game.
Thanks but sorry cannot agree with your logic. Sports is really black or white. You either win or lose except maybe soccer & hockey. While I can accept you enjoyed a win early in the season maybe even as you term it a "great" one buuuuuuuuuuuuuut once elimination comes from the winning the SB it just goes back to another ho-hum win. Maybe if we had acheived a stronger record thru the years since merger you would not be saying what you say since our Ws are so far & few apart & as a fan you have to hang your hat onto something so you come up with a mythical "great" game that really meant nothing. You do know that under Woody's ownership we are still a under 500 team? Think about it here is a owner asking us fans to pony up many thousands of USD for PSLs but still fields a junk team. Think about all the young ones going out buying jerseys & putting even more money in Woody's pockets & get a losing team in return. Does that seem right to you?
Those 2 games are undoubtedly #1 and #2, but you can file division-clinching games in 1998 at Buffalo and the long day vs. Green Bay in 2002, underneath those because division crowns go down in the books and they are rare, at least in the Jets case. And after 12 years wandering through the NFL wilderness, the 1981 post-season clincher vs the Pack should be part of the pack. If you were there that day as I was, there is no way to deny the electric excitement that surrounded that stadium, that parking lot. While I'm at it, I think if you polled the 60's Jets, they'd tell you the 68 division clincher at Houston was huge as well. You're talking about a team winning it's first division title after 8 years of existence...gaining its first playoff berth ever--especially after the near miss in 67. Look, debate is what this site is all about, but what makes a game great is how it makes you feel about your team. All I know is this...I've got about 50 VHS and DVDs of Jets highlights tapes and Jets games, and if I had to board the space shuttle with only 3 of them, after the Super Bowl and AFL Championship game, the 3rd game would be.... ********* Jets at Raiders in 82 Playoffs************** Even knowing what comes next, I was never more proud of my team or jacked up then after that 2nd road victory against a tough, and bitter rival and the #1 seed in the tourney, and that game had everything... ...sacks and sack dances, great hits (remember the Kirk Springs hit where the ball pops up and Jerry Holmes picks it), great fights (Alzado ripping off Ward's helmet and launching it at him), McNeil vs Allen, a Wesley Walker TD, long bombs, the clinching INTs by Mehl (a guy who really deserved the spotlight) and most of all, a tough, clutch performance by my favorite player on that team, Richard Todd. He broke my heart the following week, (hell they all did) but the memory of that golden game on that golden day, on that historic golden Los Angeles Coliseum field has survived all the disappointments, and only grown stronger as time has proven how precious games like that are for this team and its fans. Go Jets
I agree with you totally on the crass nature of modern sports and the hideous money-making side, of it, but that isn't the point of my argument. We'll have to disagree about sports being black and white. If that was the case you'd just check the scores on Monday morning and never bother to watch the games.
At one point, that's what he did. He admitted to taping the games and only watching them if the Jets had won. He's not a true fan at all.
Awesome post, man. I know I watched all those games but your memory is crystal clear compared to mine. It's probably because I was usually half juiced back in those days. Thank God I don't need that much alcohol any more to watch my Jets games. A couple of beers... that's about it. It's great to actually watch the plays and remember WTF happened the next day!
