Leahy missed 2 XP's in that game also, I was at the game and I remember the crowd was electric at the end and he missed a 31 yard FG and it was like they let the air out of the stadium, dead silence, that game cost us the playoffs that year....

I was 11 and everyone stood up, so I couldn't see Leahy's kick, we were up behind the home plate end zone where he was kicking. I only knew what happened by the guys' reactions in front of me. Not good. That was a big game, November, playoff implications, it was a sellout and rare home game on TV too. I remember it was weird hearing the post game in the car and the fans calling in actually had seen the game and not just heard it.

They did on 8-15-98. I was at the game. The Ravens beat the Jets 33-0. I do not remember the Jets offense being in Baltimore territory at any time in the game.

Did they install the grass trays and remove them? I remember in 1999 during a game when gamecasters were complaining about the Jets logo coming free from the turf in the center of the field.

Yeah, I believe they installed grass trays for the 1998 game.

The 1999 game you are talking about was the Monday Night game versus Jacksonville. That embarrassment was the final straw- grass was to be used for the following season.

I agree, maybe longevity is the reason? He played 11 years but his last 2 in Tampa he started 7 games in 2 years so really 9 full seasons. He was a 5 time Pro bowler and 3 time 1st team all-pro. At the very least he should be in the discussion but we never hear about him anymore.

I tried to find a Haight picture in action but couldn't. Look at the 1986 draft:

That continued for years, it shouldn't have been a surprise how bad we we were by the end of ths 80s through the mid 90s.

That was the worst draft ever for the Jets. Only Haight and Faaola even made the team.

I hadn't thought about Marvin Powell for the Hall but he should be considered. It surprised me how quickly he kind of faded away, those OTs usually last longer. He and Gastineau used to have some legendary training camp battles. When they drafted Powell and Chris Ward in consecutive years we thought we had bookends for ten years but neither guy lasted close to that long.

I don't remember him at all. I can beat him in the 40 but I'm about 120 pounds lighter.

Sherman was the first 300 pounder in the NFL, Winston Hill was huge back then and he was 260 lbs, Sherman was 310 lbs! 5.2 for the 40 at 310 lbs is actually pretty fast...

That draft was terrible, the only one that stuck was Nuu Faaola as a special teamer....

I loved Matt Robinson because he reminded me of Joe Willie because of the
Fu-manchu's, charisma and leadership qualities, strong arms, very similar throwing motions and setups
