I agree. That woke up the whole stadium and got them thinking they could win. Up to that point we were choking the life out of them slowly, even though we weren't running up points.
I was surprised when they gave Moore Walker's number the first camp after Wesley retired. I don't think that was even Moore's number at Syracuse.
I couldn't figure that one out. It's 1993 or 94 with the throwbacks, but a road game with green jerseys. At Cleveland or Miami? The Walker picture is from Shea, appears to be before they repainted in 1980, which leaves 1978 or 79, and the 1979 home Miami game was rainy and muddy. That was the first game with those uniforms, first of the 7-0-1 streak vs Miami. I think it was the first Week 1 game at Shea.
I think we only wore the throwbacks on the road for 1 game and that was at Miami. It was the '94 75th anniversary season and the throwback weekends were weeks 3 & 4 I believe though some teams wore them in other weeks as well.
We played at Miami Week 3 that year, I was in Oregon and missed it. Went into that game 2-0 with big wins at Buffalo and home for Denver, things were looking up. I think some of the older teams like Green Bay and Detroit wore throwbacks a lot that year, the Giants, too.
The 49ers wore throwbacks in the playoffs and Super Bowl. I could be wrong, but I don't think they went back to their regular uniforms after the special throwback weekends at the end of September. I think the Packers only wore throwbacks 3 or 4 times. The 49ers wore them the most. The Lions were probably second. I don't remember the Giants wearing throwbacks more than 2 or 3 times that year. The Cowboys and Jets were stupid. They combined old looks with new shit (see Moore's green helmet and those shitass jerseys the Cowboys wore with the big stars on the sleeves- those jerseys were based off of ones they wore for a few years in the 1960s).
I THINK the Niners went back to regular uni's the week after the throwbacks when they got killed by Pihlly but then switched back for good after that.
I'm disappointed I couldn't find a Chris Dressel w/ that strange neck roll he used to wear. Jonathan Carter Fred Baxter bobby humphery
I agree, the combo was just awkward, I didn't like the Jets helmets they were hideous. The Cowboys wear real throwbacks now on Thanksgiving and those are great--except last year when they were kicking the shit out of us. You're right about the 49ers, they stuck with the throwbacks for the season. The Philly game nyjunc referenced was probably the high point of Rich Kotite's coaching career.
Pretty sure that was the day he fumbled the opening kickoff of the season. Bad omen, but the game and season worked out ok. He can appear in the thread twice, he switched to #48 when they converted him to a CB.
He was good. That would be a good poll, we've had a lot of good ones. This decade alone we've had Chad Morton, Jonathan Carter, Justin Miller and Leon Washington take it to the house, most of them more than once. Going back we've had Aaron Glenn, Terrance Mathis, Preston Brown, Humphrey, a lot of them. Then again, we return a lot of kickoffs.
My first game ever attended, Lou Piccone ran one back for a TD, 1976 vs Tampa Bay. Bruce Harper was awesome too, he was kind of a forgotten weapon from those Walt Michaels teams.
