The Jets have listed Smith as RB on the official roster, not a FB (not that that means all that much). I don't recall him playing much fullback for the Ravens, however, I think they play mostly in a one-back formation.

I don't see how the Jets could keep three TEs (Keller, Franks, Baker), Posciak as and H-Back/TE, 3 RBs AND two FBs.

I'm loving this move, this really helps our goal line situation. This guy is physical.

In 2006, the Ravens had Ovie Mughelli at fullback and he was very good that year. In 2007, Le'Ron McClain took over that job and started most of the season. I think Smith saw action as both the backup to McGahee and McClain.
I know Smith started the final game in place of McGahee and ran for 83 yards in a win against Pittsburgh.

I don't want to sound like a huge Jets homer, but I can see Musa Smith, who is still very young (26), as the replacement for Thomas Jones in a couple of seasons. I don't know how long his deal is, but Smith is very fresh, a lot like Michael Turner. If he shows that he can run well in New York, he could save a draft pick for the Jets.

Musa was a beast at UGA. He's been compared to former Bronco/Raven power back Mike Anderson, who he beat out in 2006 for the backup spot in Baltimore. This guy knows how to move the chains.

Smith has had trouble staying healthy...Roy Williams horsecollared him and he suffered a comound fracture in his leg. It looks like it's healed. I know he had neck issues while he was at Georgia. As long as his knees are healthy, Smith could turn out to be a steal.

Funny how everybody is about to shoot a load over how great our backfield is with the news that we added the most marginal of players in Musa Smith, yet a lot of these same guys were saying just last month that if we did not get DMAC in the draft the world was going to end and had no faith in Jones and Leon.....I guess those people are finally admitting that we have had a solid top 10 backfield way before the draft which is why gholston and the beast that he is was exactly the right pick. Nevertheless, I love the addition of Musa but have said we were solid at RB back when we got Chatman and Richardson.

Just what we've been missing since the loss of Cedric Houston.

Nice signing. Good depth, nice talent. If he stays healthy and thats a big if he could be a nice addition. Where does he fit, is anybodys guess. Jehu needs a shot though.

The Jets' are solid at RB, but not spectacular. They have the perfect compliment of RB's by commitee now, they now are just missing that feature breakaway RB & maybe can add that piece next year or raid another teams practice squad.....like these other teams have been doing to the Jets'.

I'd rather the Jets' sign sign Lamont Jordan. He's a perfect compliment to the RB's they already have !!!

I really like this signing. I posted on a different thread that i remember us being interested in Smith before we ended up getting Barlow. After hearing that i watched him a little closer when we played against them.

All in all this guy seems to have what it takes to get it done. I didnt realize he had some size to him. Some good competition is never a bad thing especially in a position like RB. Not only will it make the younger or newer guys better, but it will keep TJ and Leon on their toes forcing them to work harder...
