Coleman and Ellis are alot better than average. Ellis had 5 sacks out of the DE position and Coleman had 88 tackles which is impressive IMHO in the 34 because the main job of a 34 lineman is to take up space and make the players around them better.
K Coleman could have had 200 tackles and He still sucks. IF Coleman was all that your trying to make him out, by going by stats, it dosen't justify why jets couldn't stop anyone running game. Tell me how many of Colemans tackles were behind the line of scrimmage and not 5-7yards down the field. ( Something smells like BS). This isd a guess. Reason why Coleman has so many tackles is Teams werew so sucessful running on the jets that they had alot of third and shorts. They elected to go right at K Coleman(first down) Jets probably had the worse pass rush for most of the season. S Ellis like the rest of Jets defense benefited alot by the gimmicks Mangini employed with DLine in second half. (standing them up) It was very effective as no one saw it,and it confused the opposing olineman. I bet alot of his five sacks came in the second half(will confirm this ) Its fools gold, might have alot bof sucess early but eventually once teams see it enoiugh,it comes down to talent,and not gimmicks.(see exoctic blitz packages in 2006) How did those blitz packages work last year. BTW just checked Ellis sack total - 2 were against the steelers. Confirming what I said. Everyone remembers the Steelers really struggling with the gimmick i mentioned. That wasn't ellis but that cheap gimmick. Hey how many sacks will Ellis have in 2008. I have a feeling you guess about alot of things. Saying "X" player sucks is not an argument. The Jets do need an upgrade at DE but its not a cornerstone position in the 34 like OLB and NT are. Kris Jenkins will make the other DEs better just like the pass rush will make the CBs better. Personally, I could care less about sacks for 34 lineman.
