I want the Mets to sweep, only because the replacements for Willie wouldn't be great, and whoever Minaya picks would probably be the wrong choice in some way.
thats my thinking, not to mention they wouldnt do anything with a new manager anyway and we'll probably have to wait for them to be competitive (hopefully) in 2009
He could stick with Willie and hope the team turns it around. As you said, it doesn't seem too likely, but I doubt either of us would've argued for Willie staying after last season if we were in Omar's position. So who knows what he's thinking.
Mets sweep Yankees and Randolph stays is better than Yankees sweep and Randolph is fired immediately. There are too many dogs on the team, which we found out last year when they blew the division and a playoff spot. Only Wright, Lo Duca, and Schoeneweis seemed upset. The rest of the guys didn't seem to care and were happy to go play golf, go back to their countries, and go fishing and shit like that. The biggest dog of them all is gone (One Third), but many remain. The team is stuck with a crappy 1st baseman for the rest of the year. If Martinez and Hernandez cannot be counted on in the second half of the season the Mets will have to acquire a good starting pitcher in July if they want to do something good in October. In other words, all the Mets problems won't be solved with a managerial change.
either way, I hate his guts for bringing him back in the first place, and will celebrate the day they are both gone. Minaya hasn't shown any significant baseball genius in assembling this team. other than the Santana trade, what has he done that any other GM couldn't have. I could have overpaid Pedro and given Beltran the world after one great postseason, not to mention the two brightest stars he inherited, Wright and Reyes, have regressed during his tenure because of the team he has built around them.
they aren't stuck with Delgado, they have to pay him whether he sits or plays so they may as well sit him. they don't need much out of his replacement to be better, there has to be somebody who can step in at first and be better than Delgado, but they are choosing to stay with him because of how much he makes.
That's my point. They are stuck with him due to his contract. THis is usually how it works in this sport and I hate it. In football, if a guy has a huge contract, but starts to blow, he'll usually get benched.
that is 100% true and i back wagner fully. no accountablilty on this team. where are the days when guys would drink beer and study the game to help each other out of slumps. bring back the 80's unity.
I hate stupid fans who are aren't concerned with the team improving and accept mediocrity. go root for someone else.
