I would rather have Ainge start than Pennington.

Thats true. They can be twisted in many different ways to make points for either side of an argument.

Still, looking at Penningtons stats as a whole they're not very good. Whether it's game stats, W/L, games started/played, etc...really nothing to write home about unless you're content with mediocrity.

He might be the best QB available to the Jets this season. That's not necessarily a positive thing though.

I would do the trade for Rivers. The other two are still incompletes. Although I would not be surprised if I would take the deal for either one of them in the next few seasons.

it's that game, super bowl 3, the opening night for mnf, the playoff run in 84, the two year turnaround under the tuna, the playoff game in 05 in pitt, those games that keep hope alive.

we're all still here, despite the debates on this board over players, coaches, and the owner.

i always say that being a jets fan is like serving life in purgatory- you occasionally get glimpse of heaven , but mostly, you have a birds-eye view of hell.

I will also salivate on cue every time somebody mentions that 41-0 shellacking of Peyton Manning in the playoffs held in the Fabulous-And-Wonderful Meadowlands sandpit one night.

I do think that Mr. Pennington is also acquainted with that one.

^ That was 6 years, one broken wrist, one sprained ankle and two major shoulder surgeries ago.... And it was the only time in 5 playoff games with Chad Pennington as the QB that we reached the endzone more than twice....

Chad will win the starting job this off-season and will be much better due to our completely revamped OLine. Keller will help out Chad a lot.

Ainge has less than a zero chance of starting any games this year. If he does, we will almost certainly be picking early again next year in the draft.

Smith has Mike Martz as a coordinator now and Quinn has yet to play. Give it some time.

    Not the point, Fourthandlong.

There are few points of light in the NYJ's long night -- that's the theme we were discussing.

I know -- 16 pages is a lot to wade through.

Beamen summed that up nicely in the post below. I will jump on the bangwagon like 4thnlong did above and say as well that 2002 is Chad is dead and never coming back.
2008 Chad is good for maybe 14TDs and 12INTs for a 64% comp. and a rating of 83.6, not to mention the abysmal 6.4 yrds per attempt he will throw for this year if he starts all 16 games and the running game is working like we think its going to.

Our light is at the end of the Tunnel. We have to move forward to get our Championship. Keep your eyes on the prize.

I believe the future requires that 85% of the NYJ's game show up. That's the OL and the DL / LBs. Once they do, then the 10% that is the QB and the RBs are due.

The crux of this kerfluffle, it seems to me is that some put emphasis where it's due -- on the OL and DL / LBs -- while others put the overwhelming emphasis on the magical play of the QB.

I think the QB's play will eventually become important, but only after we own the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.

For the NYJs, this hasn't happened satisfactorily in a long, long time.

I think you keep missing the point because you keep bringing up the lines. Everybody knows the games are won at the line of scrimmage so you don't have to keep hammering the same point. It's football 101. What you seem to keep missing is alot of people do not think the 5% that is the Qb or Chad Pennington will never show up when we have to win a game that matters. The point is it does not matter how well the other parts of the team does we will not win with CP at the helm. Eventually that 5% has to step up and Chad can not do it.

Fourthandlong, if we show up with 85% of the game intact, we will certainly not be going 4 and 12.

Also, iif we show up with 85% of the game intact, and the QB -- whoever the CS says he is -- does not show up, then we can do something about it from 85%.

Right now, we don't know if the NYJs have the 85%. The CS and FO have just spend a couple of hundred million and now we get to find out what they do have.

I appreciate that you don't think Chad can do it. For myself, I wouldn't know. I don't trust any of the 07 games to tell us squat. We were barely 5% ready to play in those games. When a team loses over and over in the fourth quarter, and they are giving up every bit of effort and strength they can get their hands on, then they are barely 5% a team.

I can hardly believe how badly the players wanted to win those games, yet they lost so many of those games. There was no revolt -- not against a player, and not against a coach. Yet they still played hard and lost 12.

If you persist in blaming that on a single player, you will guarantee another 4 and 12 and another, and another.

The problems are much bigger than the QB. Hopefully, they have been recognized and the team is addressing them.

The only way to know is September when the real deal begins.
