I would rather have Ainge start than Pennington.

Watched VInce since Texas. He was a winner there as well. Have you even watched Chad over the last six years? If so then why are there 500 threads about him on this site all the time?

The Titans Defense is awesome. Never said it wasn't. With that said VInce gives their mediocre talent a chance to win on offense. Do you think chad would do a better job on the titans than vince? Chad Cant win with a Future Hof Running back and good line at his disposal!

    Uh huh.

You keep telling me he's a winner and all he knows how to do is put up points.

He had 12 total TDs last year. He had 20+ turnovers.

His team had the 22nd ranked offense by points scored.

"He's a winner" is not an argument.

Once again, the teams that vince young plays for win more often than they lose no matter the talent surrounding him. As I have stated before I think he is a mediocre at best Qb. If VInce wins with mediocre talent and bums around him then how can we defend Chad. That is the point. I am by no means saying he is a top tier Nfl Qb. But I would take him over Chad any day of the week.

    Uh huh.

I'm just going to quit while I'm way ahead.

You can keep spewing that same message out.

If you think your ahead to get some closure than find. At the end of the day as long as Chad is the starter for the NYJ we are all behind!

The problem with Young is that he's beginning to look like a one-dimensional player and that dimension isn't the passing game. The Titans' defense does a great job of keeping the offense in the game with sacks and turn overs but if the opposing defense can shut down the run then Young is pretty much screwed. He needs a running game and the defense behind him just as much as Chad does and if it's not there his cannon arm isn't going to be usefull.

This "he wins games" argument was the same logic that all of the fans and experts used for Michael Vick. In the regular season, this made perfect sense because his scrambling ability made-up for his passing deficiencies and it's the same case with Young. Take away his ability to run consistently like every other team in the playoffs did to Vick and you're left with the same product. The point being that Young's "W" column is based on his ability to scramble which is something that the majority of starting NFL QBs do no possess so it's hard to imagine you can fault Chad on that point. Howevver, being able to run like Young doesn't win championships when your QB can't throw the ball so how can you bash Chad and elevate Young so high when the main problem with both of them is their lack of ability in the pasing game?

    Uh huh.

And if we had Vince Young QB'ing us we'd be the best ever.

I don't even know how Chad entered this conversation.

Quote: "...Chad Pennington had good protection, and moved the ball 22 yards in one minute before throwing a pick 6 to seal the game..."

This is not true. The actual sequence was:

    "... 1-10-NYJ 12 (1:44) (Shotgun) 10-C.Pennington pass short middle to 89-J.Cotchery to NYJ 18 for 6 yards (28-D.Jackson).
    2-4-NYJ 18 (1:26) 10-C.Pennington pass short left to 29-L.Washington ran ob at NYJ 24 for 6 yards.
1-10-NYJ 24 (1:19) (Shotgun) 10-C.Pennington pass short left to 87-L.Coles ran ob at NYJ 35 for 11 yards.
    1-10-NYJ 35 (1:14) (Shotgun) 10-C.Pennington pass short left to 87-L.Coles ran ob at NYJ 40 for 5 yards (22-J.Joseph).
    2-5-NYJ 40 (1:07) (Shotgun) 10-C.Pennington sacked at NYJ 34 for -6 yards (97-J.Thornton).
    3-11-NYJ 34 :)46) (Shotgun) 10-C.Pennington pass short left intended for 87-L.Coles INTERCEPTED by 22-J.Joseph at NYJ 42. 22-J.Joseph for 42 yards, TOUCHDOWN...."

This is an example of the run not working, the pass rush getting to Chad quickly so he has to throw short. He's getting sacked, and Jonathan Josephs is jumping that short route to Coles.

Im not disagreeing with what you posted. The difference is VInce has never been given anything remotely close to a Wr since he has been in the league so his passing skills are still at the incomplete level. Who has he had to throw too. They signed Justin Mcareins for him to throw to this year? What a joke. If I had to guess I would say that he is mediocre at best with good receivers. But he does find a way to win. Chad can not throw if he has good receivers and he can't run. If Young gets it together he has the ability to be good unlike Chad. Young is coming into his third year so we will see what happens.

Did you watch the game? Obviously not...

The run wasn't an option with under 2 minutes to go. Stop relying on that explanation.. In a 2 minute drill, the QB needs to be able to do it without help from the running game...

The one sack was a complete protection break down, but he was not close to being touched on any of the previous 4 plays...

In fact, for the Cotchery catch, and the Washington one, Pennington stayed in the pocket FOREVER, before checking down over the middle..

And by the way, why didn't you address the rest of my post? Where I pointed out that he hasn't led us to a TD in a 2 min drill in the last 2 seasons?

At the very least we would have a punchers chance to win and the fans would not defend him for six years if he s**ked under no circumstances so I would not have to suffer through this nonsense.

College success does not equal NFL success. If that were the case then where are Danny Wuerffule's HOF plaque and Chris Weinke's SB MVP?

Do I think Chad could have done a better job... good question and it definitely could be argued. I'm not talking about future years either if apart of your argument is VY is younger that has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

As for my answer... man I really am not sure.

Quote: "...The previous week, against Philadelphia Chad Pennington and the offense got the ball down 7 with 8 minutes left. Chad Pennington was not sacked on the ensuing drive, and had okay time to throw the whole time. The "drive" took 4 and a half minutes. Pennington completed 2 passes on the drive- none to a WR..."

This is not true either. Here is the actual sequence, and there are some WR completions in there -- note the running game is being stifled as well...

    "... 1-10-NYJ 20 (8:32) 10-C.Pennington pass deep right to 89-J.Cotchery to NYJ 43 for 23 yards (27-Q.Mikell).
    1-10-NYJ 43 (7:52) (No Huddle) 20-T.Jones left guard to NYJ 45 for 2 yards (37-S.Considine).
    2-8-NYJ 45 (7:10) (No Huddle, Shotgun) 10-C.Pennington pass short left to 89-J.Cotchery to 50 for 5 yards (22-J.Hanson).
3-3- (6:25) (No Huddle, Shotgun) 10-C.Pennington pass deep left intended for 16-B.Smith INTERCEPTED by 24-S.Brown at PHI 30. 24-S.Brown to PHI 30 for no gain (16-B.Smith)...."

It was under two minutes Chad had to throw. And he dinked and dunked us to a loss. What did you want the run game to do? Run out the clock?

I really don't think you've investigated Vince Young as a QB enough... neither have I- thats why i'm not ready to crown him like you are. He is a great athlete, but to tell me that he is anything more isn't the truth.

My thoughts exactly... I guess I'm old school (despite being 22) but I want my QB to be able to throw the ball with consistency and VY has not proved that.

Quote: "...Pennington's physical limitations make him extremely easy to defend in two-min drill situations, because he cannot complete the deep/intermediate sideline routes with any consistency...."

I would like to point out that this is an example of your negative bias toward Chad -- Brett Favre has always had a very hard time throwing outside the numbers to either side, and he has never been blamed for having a noodle arm. A case in point for you is the last pass that Brett threw before he retired -- it was outside the numbers to Donald Driver and ended up in the hands of one Corey Webster who was tackled right away.

i think you need to go back and think about this a bit: Why would the NYJs spend all this money and time (there is also more than one subject matter expert involved in this) and effort in Chad if he is truly as bad as you keep saying he is?

    What would be the point?

I think we need both Chad and Kellen and I'm for keeping them both for now. But I'm not a Chad supporter at the expense of anyone else, nor am I a Kellen supporter at all other QBs' expense. I happen to think this CS and FO are doing a pretty well-thought out, good consensus process job in reworking this team. I just don't believe they would be so far wrong about one of the most important positions on the team.

If the CS agreed with this extreme negative bias about Chad or Kellen to any real degree, I think we would have seen different free agency activity, and a different draft as well.

In a 2 minute drill you don't run the ball, unless you have a timeout and the RB is running to the center of the field to give the Kicker a better angle to kick from.

Forget what is on paper - Chad had the correct amount of time to throw for the play that was called, he failed as he has many times to throw the 3 step out route to the sidelines during the 2 minute drill and turned the ball over- plays like those are his fault.
