I'm not the least bit surprised. I absolutely agree with you. However, there are people that will point to his walks as evidence that he can be patient. He swings at a lot of bad pitches, especially up and in.
Great job today. We got great pitching, and offensive contributions from players who have been struggling.
In case you were referring to me, I wasn't pointing to his walk totals as evidence that he's patient. I was pointing to increases in his walk rate and - more importantly - his pitches seen per plate plate appearances this year over last year. Point being, it doesn't seem like the cause of all his problems this year is "lack of patience" since he's actually seeing more pitches than he has in previous years when he raked. Good win for the Yanks today, though. Let's hope that's the end of the slumping for Giambi and Cano. The Yanks need those two to pick up the slack.
Nice to see Cano raise his batting average past Giambalco... I'm sick of teetering at .500...Let's go.
What's the deal with Arod? Is he expected back after his 15 days are up? We aren't going anywhere until he does get back. Having Duncan batting cleanup just doesn't protect anybody. NM, I just read it and also so that Igawa will start the series against Detroit. That should be fun. Glad I will probably miss it.
yankees struggling vs. lefties with the lefty-heavy lineup, but kenny rogers does suck, so we'll see.
yeah thats what i was saying to myself the other weak and the lineup failed to show up against the gambler. i think the bats are coming alive and we see a big game for the yanks today. kei igawa pitches a gem. :breakdance:
I'm actually curious to see Igawa pitch now. He's been good in the minors, let's see if he has everything worked out. Who knows? He could return and be a great addition to the staff. I'd just like to take this opportunity to remind everyone how they reacted when Melky was first called up a couple years back. People thought the kid was never going to be a major leaguer. I said just wait, he'll be back, and he'll be great. Who leads the club in homers right now? This is why I think Kennedy will be better served by the trip to the minors, rather than working it out with the pro club. Sometimes guys just need a restart. Talent doesn't just evaporate. I say give Igawa a chance before writing him off. ---------------- Cappy, I have a question. You referred to Cano's increase in pitches seen. Does that include foul balls? (Serious question.) The reason I ask is because it seems to me that he's fouling off far more balls than he used to. A big reason for that is what I've already identified. He's turning his head. (Plus swinging at a poorer pitch selection.) So maybe his at-bats are lasting longer, but he's not taking quality swings. Someone needs to sit down with him and work with him. I don't understand what Long is doing. It's like he's totally hands off with everyone these days. If Cano could concentrate at the plate, and keep his eyes focused on the ball, I believe he could be a perfect #5 guy behind ARod. Again, I don't think he's a #3 guy, but #5, sure. (Of course, I'd love to be wrong and he turns out a perfect #3 hitter. I just don't think it'll ever happen.)
we'll know pretty early about igawa....if he can keep the ball down he aint bad....if its up like it was last year, my mother can hit him
