How many of you really think we win the AFC East this coming season? I'm sorry but I don't even see us making the playoffs. I hope I'm wrong but we have to keep it real.

It's not realistic to think we'll win the AFC East, that doesn't mena it can't happen but if anyone expects that they are crazy. Only if Brady goes down does any team other than NE have a shot at the div. It is realistic to think we can be a playoff team though.

It's too early to tell if the sched is weak, teams get good and bad really quick. In '06 teams looked at Jets on their sched and thought easy win but we went out and won 10 games, last year teams saw us on their sched and saw a tough game then we went out and won 4 games. It looks easier now but who knows how it plays out.

As of this time, I feel the one statement we can make is that we will definitely be better than we were last year. Thank God!! I feel the Jets have a fairly good chance to make the playoffs and have a good chance to go 9-7.

Agreed. It's moronic to think we can assume top spot in the east just b/c on paper we had a great off season. In theory we should be good enough to avoid all those close losses we suffered last year....but there is nothing there that says we are better then the best team in football.

It's funny because so many people are quick to say that we have an easy schedule but the Jets SUCKED last year. I don't care how anyone wants to spin it, we won 4 games and only one was against a decent team.

When people look over their schedules they mark us down as a win.

Things look better on paper right now but I don't think theres any gimmes on this schedule. The closest we have is the Phins, but even thats up for debate now that the former FO and CS incompetence has been shown the door.

    Poll on nfl.com homepage...

who will win the AFC East.

after 6730 votes, the results are:

    Patriots: 37%
    Jets: 6%
    Dolphins: 7%
    Bills: 50%

I'm stunned that this is how it's going.
    I figured it would be around: cheaters-70%, Jets-10$, Bills-18%, Fish-2%

I'd be willing to bet that there's a link to that poll on every Bills message board in existence.

I agree, it's all about winning the close games. Last year we lost 6 games of 7 points or less and 9 games by 11 points or less including the Giants game where we were ahead by 10 points twice and scored offensive, defensive and special teams touchdowns. Hopefully with a better D and a more solid O-line we can win the close ones. As a side note in 2006 we won 5 games of 7 points or less.

I expect the Jets to battle for the AFC East title and put up a respectable showing. I also expect the Jets to make the play-offs.

I think that the Bills will improve this year and for the Patriots to still be one of the league's top teams. But with all the moves being made during the off-season and the drafting of two potential game-changers, I have to say that there is definitely a reason to be optimistic.

The improvements on the OL that will occur due to the signing of Faneca and Woody will make ineffective weapons from last year become potent ones this coming season. Let's not forget that TJ is a 1,000 yd RB even under the most adverse conditions. Think about Keller more as a big and fast WR rather than a TE/H-Back. He will be that seam buster that we really did not have last year. Think about an All-Pro FB like Richardson blasting holes for our RB's. Think about Coles and Cotcherry being more effective because the defense will have to sag towards the box to play a more effective running game.

On defense, think about how stout the DL will be now that Jenkins is there. Think about all the tackles Harris made last year even though he didn't start every game. Think about our linebackers and who the opposing OL will have to double team on the edges. Gholston? Pace? BT?. Think about having the two most promising young DB's in the league in Rhodes and Revis. Think about a 3-4 defense that finally has personnel that fits the system.

Think about the Jets' 4-12 schedule; the aging Patriots LB corp and its decimated secondary; the uncertainty of the QB situation in Buffalo; and the total roster revamping that's occurring in Miami....THINK ABOUT IT!

Maybe it's just the genetic make-up of Jets fans that makes them eternally pessimistic but with everything that's happening within the team and the division, there's more than a few reason to be more optimistic this year than last year.

No my brothers.....we have more reason to be optimistic now. Not since the Parcells era can I say that this teams carries with it more promise than in recent years passed.

The line at the computer in Buffalo got a bit bogged down.

The Jets have some chances to do well this season but they mainly depend on the QB play, how well the new additions jell on defense and injury luck. They have very little chance at having a dominant season, because all three of the above would have to work out at optimum levels for that to happen, however they could win 9 or 10 games in realistic circumstances.

I expect that the real number they're going to wind up at is 7-9 or 8-8 but they could win two more or two less.

To give you an example of what I mean: if Faneca or Mangold goes down in TC with an injury the Jets are going to have the same problems on offense next year that they had last year and things will be ugly. Same thing for Kris Jenkins or David Harris on defense.

This can be a good year, but in 09 we will be true contenders.

maybe we don't win the east, but i disagree with your notion that we don't make the playoffs.

2 years ago we were a 10 win team. are we not a better team then we were 2 years ago? we are vastly improved over the team we were last year. to have expectations of making the playoffs, i don't think is unrealistic.

It's fairly unrealistic to think the Jets will make the playoffs given the situation they're in at the moment. They have no proven QB, which is the biggest factor, their defense has been weak for 3 years running and despite adding a few players we have no idea how they'll jell - particularly given that Mangini has no track record of actually putting together a good defense. The Pats defense was stronger when Romeo Crennel was the DC and it got stronger again as soon as Mangini left.

Probably the next biggest factor is that the Dolphins have competent people running the team again for the first time in a half decade. Parcells is going to get results out of them that nobody expects, just like he did with the Giants, Patriots, Jets and Cowboys. The Dolphins may not make the playoffs next year but they're going to win at least 7 or 8 games and that cuts off the Jet's air supply pretty dramatically in terms of having a good season.

you have a good point, the Jets have to get that much better at each position considering this division is beginning to shape up and become an even playing field. The Fins and Bills are getting better and the Pats are still the Pats. They have to keep improving or else they will find themselves in last, even if they win 8 games at one point.
