After seeing our offseason moves and our draft, who do you want as the starter? I have to go with Chad. With maybe the best D in the division, I'd rather an experienced QB who won't make many mistakes. He deserves one last shot.
I wouldn't say I particularly want Chad as the starter, but I think he'll win the job coming out of camp. He may do well too, when the actual games start. With a better line, and an actual rushing attack, it will free him up to use his play-action skills. I'm actually okay with either QB right now. Whoever wins the job isn't going to get initial complaints out of me. With a revamped OLine, it's a totally different story than last year.
1 and 7 with all that experience 3 more wins with no experience, no coles, no real motivation and with two catches(McDroppins and cotch) we have two more wins but if everyone wants to go back to the good old days of 8 and 8 or 9 and 7 and barely making playoffs, instead of going possibly further, yee fucking hah! Can u people just get a grip chad is great, blow him if u want, but really, we have been there done that can we try something new? Im sick of ducks and 3 yard runs and punts! Even fucking herm knew with chad all we are gonna get was field goals thats why nugent is here, PLEASE enough of this B.S. can we stretch the field, dink and dunk are dead, lets move on
please read '-MC-'s post about Kellen Clemens. Everything I would have to argue about is stated in that.
I'm the same I'm lukewarm about both QBs. I have full faith in Mangini- whoever he decides is the best QB for this year, he will pick. I kinda hope its Chad just to see the board implode
The CS will let them fight it out in TC and for all those that want Clemens to win the job dont be surprised when Chad wins the job easily. This is just my gut feeling!
As the nom de plume implies, I am partial to both of these guys. When you stop putting Chad and Kellen at a marked disadvantage, they both will shine. I wish that I could be a fly on the wall for all of this competition this off-season because I am quite sure it will be unique. These guys are friends and each other's best supporter. This may be hard for folks to fathom, but these team mates want the team to succeed. To have that attitude increases the power of your performance, as well as that of your "rival". We are most fortunate, as fans, that the NYJ CS understands the value of fierce competition between team mates. It is true that this team has an awful lot to overcome, and a lot of very good teams to beat. However, by building a solid and deep foundation on that line of scrimmage, the NYJ CS are giving their skill players a chance. And that's all anyone deserves to make it in the NFL.
Chad didn't even beat out Kellen in TC last year. He was clearly better in pre-season, but the coaches handed Chad the job out of loyalty.
Pay attention -- the pre season games are a very small part of the overall CS evaluation of the players (less than 20%, as it turns out). The pre season games are little more than arbitrarily structured lab sessions for the team -- with a lot of vanilla offensive plays and defensive sets to mask what the team's real intention will be in the coming season. With these provisos, you should also note that Kellen was given a different instruction ("Go for broke!") than Chad (Hand the Ball Off over and over) in their respective sessions during 07 pre season games. Guys, we have to face the fact that we are not privy to most (80%) of the pre-season decision making process of the NYJs. Live with it.
Personally, I don't care either but I would be happiest, and so should all of you, if somehow Ainge got the job turned over to him in week 8 but only because of an injury and not because we sucked so bad it didn't matter any more (like last year). That would mean he has the makings of the real deal.
I'm hoping that Kellen wins the pre-season competition. I've seen enough of Chad and would rather never see him throw a pass for the Jets again. Kellen needs to step the fuck up. I will root like hell for whoever wins though. I was also happy to see us pick up Ainge yesterday. I think he has a tremendous upside and could turn into a hell of an NFL QB. He obviously won't press for the #1 this season though.
OK Kellen was better pre-season playing against 2nd and 3rd stringers!!! Kellen only played last year because the season was over and the CS didn't want to get Chad hurt again...They would rather let the younger guy take the abuse which he did!!
For the future of the franchise, we had better hope it's gonna be Clemens. Pennington being the starter only delays our finding out whether or not Clemens has what it takes to be the man.... We know what we have in Pennington. We're not quite sure about Clemens.... It's time to find out whether or not Clemens is going to be the man... Anyone else as the starter is just delaying the inevitable...
Put me down for Clemens. Nothing against Chad, but it is time to start anew for the new regime and not be beholden to Chad just because he is a fan favorite and media darling. Just turn the page. Oh sure this probably means Chad is trade bait, and it is hard to trade off a QB AFTER the draft, but say a QB goes down during pre season or early in the regular season, Pennington would look good as a savior of another team.
There was more to it than that and everybody just loves to conveniently forget it. Clemens was the number 2 QB in his rookie year. He stayed in that role until about week 8 where he was demoted to third string. It was never announced as to why but it clearly showed that Mangini was not happy with him even then. At the end of the season and with the Jets having made the playoffs Pennington was given the job and rightfully so. Another indication as to how Mangini feels about Clemens would be how long it took for him to be given the job last year when the season was clearly a lost cause weeks earlier. And if you really need a third reason which I'm sure you don't they wanted to grab Flacco this weekend.
If it is not Clemens then the FO made a big time mistake not going after a higher rated QB, particularly Matt Ryan.
