I am admittedly confused what the Jets are going to do with their linebackers. Can Bryan Thomas play inside with David Harris with Vernon Gholson and Calvin Pace on the outside?

Gholston, Thomas and Pace will be used on the outside with Barton and Harris on the inside.

Sweet 5 linebacker sets. J/k im guessing well do some sort of rotation and eventually phase Thomas out.

Barton's fine, I don't understand why nobody likes him there. He's pretty damn good when he's healthy, although I admit we need depth up the middle.

No he can't. He can't really play OLB that well either, unless he's in a contract year. I think the Pace signing and the Gholston pick signal what the CS and FO think of BT. One more year and he's a goner.

I think Bowens will be the fourth OLB in the rotation

Maybe we line up in the dreaded 2-5? Kris Jenkins and Pouha on the line and a 5-LB set? that should be quite an exciting set imo... just don't do it in running situations... lol

I think Pace will get alot of snaps inside. He's really polished at LBer for a guy who spent only one year in the 3-4.

As an offense guy even I am really excited about this set of LBers. I think I am going to go buy me a Gholston jersey....Man I cant wait to see this guy hit Brady from his blind side, strip the ball, and tear his rotator cuff...oh wait maybe I shouldnt write everything I think....ah f*&k it, tear his arm off Vernon. Welcome to NYC playa.

I agree. Pace will be used a lot like the Patriots used Adalius Thomas. Inside, and outside. We have a lot versatility at LB with Gholston and Pace.

It should be fun watching Mangini confuse a lot of teams.

Bowens played exceptionally well, despite his size, when he was lined up as a DE last year. In fact, in my opinion, he was our most effective DE in the limited snaps he played that position.

Considering our complete lack of DL depth, I'd hope he gets plenty more reps along the DL in 2008....

I forgot all about Bowens! He finished last season strong when he finally got some PT. We should have a real solid pass rush next season.

Pace can play inside. Thomas can only play outside.

It is no accident when the DC/Mangini went to a rotation, the front 3 were light years better. I would think that the CS saw this and would try and get him in the rotation, given that it is more than likely his playing time at OLB is going to be minimal at best with all the additions to the outside.

If they continue the rotation I am pretty excited that the front 7 are going to be way way better then what they were last year. That could help mask the lack of a true #2 CB........

    so we have OLB depth.

who backs up Harris and Barton? is it still Kassell and Chatam? because if that's the case, then we were stupid for not picking up an ILB instead of Ainge.

He's horrible in coverage (Read: Gets beaten by all backs and tight ends on almost every play) and is barely passable in the run game, not efficiently shedding blocks or stopping the linemen.

As previously mentioned, I would expect Pace to play inside more than Thomas.

  18. I don't think so.

They may make him restructure his contract..but BT does have a skillset that can be an asset w/ what Mangini wants to do.

Mangini wants a deep LB corps w/ proper size(which we now have) and a unique mix of talent, in order to be versatile w/ our scheme and to match up well w/ opponents. Gholston, BT, and Pace all bring different things to the table and will allow us ALOT of flexibility.

  19. Rome wasnt built in a day, my man.

At least the starters are in place. Starters who actually FIT the scheme, and could develop into an elite unit. This roster is still another draft away from a true SB run. Give the loose ends time.

i don't think there is much to restructure--thomas got a huge signing bonus and salary for 07, with small salaries for the last 4 years on his last deal
