I'm on record stating that i LOVED our day 1. I think Gholston was the correct pick at 6, and that keller will give our offense a big boost as an H back. But I am NOT happy at all w/ this Lowry pick. The reason? I didnt like the value of DB's in round 4 ater KIng and Branch went off the board. This guy likely couldve been had in round 5,maybe even 6. I saw alot more value at positions like OL and DL. Guys like Roy Schuening, Frank Okam, and perhaps Dre Moore wouldve looked quite good at # 113. Now it's still early on day two..and we still have 3 more picks, but i'm getting this feeling that line depth will be shunned once again. And the culprit usually tends to be..load up on DB's. Ive pinpointed Bradway as the source of this, as it has been a problem since he took over. Is it truly him? i'm not sure. But i'm really getting sick of our 2 deep depth chart including mostly no name UDFA's. The value has been there on SEVERAL occassions to take a lineman this year and in year's past...yet we continue to shun line depth. Am I missing something? Can it be explained to me why we continue to do this???
Because the FO/CS are clueless? Wake up man, the Jets are turning back into laughingstocks before our very eyes.
Great acquisitions in the offseason that filled immediate needs, and a good Day 1 on Draft day that concentrated on explosiveness on both sides of the ball, and all of a sudden we're the NFL's laughing stock? Sounds like you need to wake up, buddy.
5'11 205 4.54, injured for 5 games last year... still had decent numbers... Sounds like a pro-prospect to me, and yes, considering our recent success in the 4th round, sounds like a decent pick to me.
You are the most negative person on this board. You make these dumbass statements and then you don't even bother to back them up with any evidence. POINTLESS BANTER -- that should be your screen name.
And yesterday you were complaining this FO trades away picks. They just traded back and got back a 5th, one of those late rounders you say championship teams stockpile. So they traded up yesterday, and end up with the same number of picks as they started with - 6. You can't complain about that now, so you move on to something else. I normally don't mind your perspective. But lately you remind me of champ, Bradway. You can't complain for the sake of complaining.
The problem is, there no depth at the OL. We got five good starters but if one of them is injured who is going to play? We traded Wade Smith, Adrian Jones because they weren't any good. Are the no names back up O linemen that are left any better? Maybe they think that they can get a good O lineman or two when they get cut by some other team but we did that last year and the best we got was Clarke.
We've got Jacob Bender and that's about it. I could buy the excuse that Wade Smith was an interior swingman at all 3 spots...but now? We've got Jacob Bender and a bunch of UDFA's.
Wow, I didn't know Lowry was out for five games last year -- this explains his drop in production (INTs) from 06. I'm even more impressed by this ball hawk.
I agree that we need depth in the OL, but considering we have a limited number of draft picks available, and immediate needs that haven't yet been addressed, it makes more sense for us to concentrate on the immediate needs in the draft. We can always sign depth players.
It was one pick in which we traded down to gain another pick. Shuening, Nicks, Rubin etc are all still available, lets wait and see what happens with our 3 remaining picks before jumping off bridges.
While OL depth is a need, so is CB, and FS. (I think this guy might be a FS rather than a CB) The next picks could be o-line not that a 5th, 6th, and 7th rounder will help much in the short term.
Yeah, and Callahan. He sucks as a HC, but has the rep of being a fantastic OL coach. Picking up 6-7 O-linemen in the last rounds and FA doesn't bother me, just weed out the useless ones and develop the rest.
The draft isn't over yet. And after the draft is over there will be a lot of unsigned free agents reviewed and perhaps signed. Once the cuts begin this summer, we will have additional OL opportunities coming from more experienced ranks. In my view, the FO has a plan and is sticking to it. So far they don't like many of the hyped corners, they don't like any of the hyped WRs (can't believe the NYGs selected Manningham, though), and they're keeping their powder dry with the higher rated Big Uglies. This draft tells me that these hyped mock drafts and non-team sponsored draft 'experts' are not exactly on the same page with the NFL scouting teams. It looks like the NFL scouting teams "use" these guys to pull the wool over the eyes of their competition, or don't tell them anything until "after the fact" justifications of their actions are warranted. There's a big variance...this guy William Hayes was drafted at the start of the 4th round and none of the draft "experts" even had him on their draft boards. Lots of BS, not a lot of facts. The draft is more and more like the real games -- separates the wheat from the chaff.
NE just drafted Jonathan Wilhite rated LOWER than Lowery (and projected to go AFTER Lowery). I guess they reached too and don't know what they are doing right? And after Samuel left they are in desperate need of CBs. We need to keep some perspective and realize the FO has much more info on these guys than we do. It is the fourth round, at this point you have to have some faith in the scouting department and CS.
I hope we get Rubin, because re Moore was a monster at the combine, you can't tell me that guy didn't have a shot at taking Ellis spot in a year.
Your also forgetting the june 1 cuts, every year some decent oline vets get cut due to salary, we could sign 1 or 2 for backups I prefer vets as backups to rookies anyway on the line. Plus we still have 3 picks to address line
Not to mention a mediocre RT in Woody... I liked the Faneca acquisition, but if ONE guy goes down along the OL, we're gonna be in just as bad shape as we were last season...
There's something you need to understand. Br4dw4y5ux is just trying to help us all to come to grips with some simple, irrefutable facts: 1. The Jets have never had, do not have, and never will have a good player. 2. The Jets have never made nor will they make the right decision on draft day. 3. The Jets have never had, don't have, nor will ever have a good coaching staff, GM, or owner. 4. The Jets never won a damn thing and never will. Once you accept these truths, you and Br4dw4y5ux will get along much better.
