THe way tangini has handled the last couple of drafts is proof that they are not content in taking the best available guy. They draft 100% based on need and desired player as evidenced by them trading up twice in the first two rounds in the last draft. Furthermore, if this offseason has shown us anything, they are no longer taking a passive route when it comes to targeting players. If they like chris long or mcfadden enough i guarantee at number 2, chris berman is going to announce radio city hall is about ready to explode as the jets have moved up. If the falcons are going to take matt ryan at 3, there is a good chance they trade back to 6 with the jets and settle for him at 6 at a lesser price tag. If the draft plays out as most of us fear and we are left staring at ryan at 6, there is also a great possibility we are moving back to 8 and taking harvey, mendehall or the corner. I just dont see the jets sitting there at 6 and missing out on a player they really want. At around 3:40-4, i expect goodell to be announcing some sort of trade including the jets.
I agree. I think we're either going to trade up for McFadden or down for a team that wants Ryan. I wouldn't mind picking up an extra second and taking a CB like McKlevin to pair with Revis.
I get the same feeling and if they move up for DMAC, I would Commend them as a Jet Fan. If not move down!
I wouldn't mind a move-up for Dmac but Id rather have them stay put and take Gholston while keeping our 2nd round pick
I think Gholston is going to fall to us and I'm not sure he is worth the pick or a trade up. He has a lot of upside but also has bust potential, there are a ton of players who will go after him who are likely to be very solid pros. Not sure we get a trade up partner for him? Trading down may be the only possability. If the Chiefs are on the board with Dorsey and Gholston they will take Dorsey or trade out and I don't see the big trade up for Gholston.
We need to hope Dorsey gets to 6 if the top 4 go as expected. Unfortunately I think KC will either trade their spot or take him for themselves and we are left with Gholston or a surprise pick.
Well don't cream your pants cause they are saying he will fall. hmy: 2-Long 3-Ryan 4-RunDMC 5-Maybe Dorsey but likely trade 6-
I'm not sure if we'll be trading the 6 pick, but given Tanny's fervent desire to talk to people on the phone in draft weekend, I think it is almost guaranteed that we make at least 2 trades before it ends Sunday night.
I think that Gholstons stock slightly falling recently will be a blessing in disguise. If Long is not there, then I want Gholston 100%. Run DMC would be my 3rd choice, but I would much rather have someone trade the house to get up to 6, and in return we get multiple picks throughout the 1st two rounds...
I'm going to make one of those stupid "write it down" predictions. If Gholston is there, we pass on him and take McKelvin. And Gholston drops out of the top 10. Write it down
Well Hiker, I will refute that statement and say if Gholston is there at 6, if we pick someone we'll take him, if Long is gone. The only other option it seems will be trading down if we can.
Before the combines, he was a 2nd round talent. The hype started then, but a lot of teams won't go for that and have Gholston rated any higher than he was in February. Which is why I won't be shocked if he does fall.
If I remember, Gholston was actually top 10 talent before the combine. It was his combine that catapulted him into the top 5.
you could very well be right. after looking at what they did in fa, the fact remains that we still do not a franchise qb. so, if they trade down, cb and qb remain a need, as well as a pass-rusher up front.
Gholston was actually being spoken about as a top pick during the college season. I don't understand all the 'workout warrior' talk he gets. I mean, he had a great workout, but he didn't rocket up the charts after it.
From Sporting News, March Vernon Gholston Ohio State NFL comparison: Kalimba Edwards Against the run: Shows flashes of being a solid run stuffer, but is inconsistent and gets swallowed up by big blockers. Struggles to maintain leverage on the corner; seems only to want to rush upfield. Takes plays off. Must get stronger. Pass Rush: Has NFL speed. Gets upfield in a hurry to disrupt the pocket. Has a variety of pass rush moves that rely on his agility, but he will not be able to bull rush many NFL linemen. Initial Quickness: When focused, he shows explosive quickness off the snap; he is inconsistent, though. If opponents run at him play after play, he seems to slow down by the fourth quarter. After his initial move, he tends to go half-speed. Run/Pass Recognition: Seems locked in on rushing the passer and is slow to react to runs. Rarely moves well lateral to chase plays, laboring down the line unless the ballcarrier comes back to him. Even when keying on the run, he struggles to help much and will blow containment assignments. Pursuit/Tackling: Is slow in pursuit and does not hustle to the opposite sideline. When focused, he was a dominant college player, but often disappeared in games. Is a good tackler when playing hard, but is inconsistent. Bottom Line: Gholston could fit in a 4-3 or 3-4 scheme and has the size and speed to be productive at defensive end, tackle, or rush linebacker. A dynamic athlete, Gholston can dominate some games and totally disappear in others. Many NFL teams will be wary of his inconsistent effort and focus. Gholston should be used only as a pass rush specialist for a year or two as he develops.
