Yeah, unless we use them all to trade up.

With linebackers like James Laurinaitis and Rey Maualuga and pass rushers like USF's George Selvie, GT's Michael Johnson, Indiana's Gred Middleton, and Ole Miss' Greg Hardy maybe available in 2009, I wouldn't mind trading up...

2009 is going to be loaded with talent on defense and on the offensive line.

I love conditional picks. let's not only hope Robertson does well, but that the Bronco's are in the playoff hunt -- it will reduce the likelihood that they would reduce his playing time to reduce the compensation if the season is all but lost and they have nothing to gain out of playing him. but if the Bronco's are battling for a division or wild card, and they need him on the field...

    D-Rob to Denver part II

On the surface, it appears the Jets got next to nothing in trading Dewayne Robertson to the Broncos Thursday afternoon for what has been reported to be a late-round conditional pick in the 2009 draft.

But, a league source said, if Robertson plays as much for the Broncos as he did for the Jets last season, the draft choice could "be significantly better than that."
That has a decent chance of happening. While Robertson has a bone-on-bone condition in his knee and he flunked a Broncos team physical last month, the defensive tackle, never a fit for the Jets 3-4 scheme, played in 15 of 16 games in 2007. In 2006, he played in all 16 games. If Robertson sees the field that much next season, the Jets will end up getting more out of this than it currently looks. Still, for the fourth overall pick of the 2003 draft...well, something's better than nothing.

Of course, the larger victory for the Jets here is the money they've cleared. Robertson was due about $18 million over the final two years of his contract.

What's next, warm feelings for Bryan Thomas? Blair Thomas? Kyle Brady?

He was a 4th overall pick that we wasted 2 1st rd picks to get. He set the franchise back - I'll wish him to hell before I wish him luck.

    Good luck D-Rob

    "Can't nobody block me"

I think he'll do fine in the 4-3, he just wasn't tall enough to be an effective as a DE here. If he was 6'4, I'm sure Mangini would have tried keeping him. A short, squatty DE just is not going to be effective in this scheme.

I'm sure this move saved some $$$ and was par preferable to cutting him- good trade for both sides.

I understand your anger towards these players that were either busts or never lived up to billing, But you have to blame Bradway and the other FO people we have had in the Jets organization that makes these picks...

...this is not hindsight, I hated the move that Bradway made to give up those 1st rounders to move up to take Robertson....if you remeber he also paniced and traded up because he was scared to not get S Moss.....

Guys, I understand all the warm feelings for a guy who was drafted too high, for too much, and given far too much compensation, who still went out and made the most of what he has.

At the same time, forget his not fitting into the scheme. The guy has a debilitating injury. The same injury that ended Curtis Martin's career. One of the most important body parts for a sportsman is the knees. That we've managed to get anything for Robertson and Vilma, both with significant and persistent debilitating injuries to their knees, is a credit to the Jets FO.

D-slob didn't draft himself at #4. D-slob didn't choose to switch to a 3-4. D-slob didn't shoot himself in the knee causing a degenerative condition.

D-slob played the best he could at whatever he was asked. D-slob never complained or stirred the pot.

For these reasons, I wish him the best of luck in his new environ (unless he's playing us).

Now that the Jets have plenty of money left under the cap was this draft made now before the draft in anticipation of another trade coming soon for some other player on another team who makes a lot of cash and causing that team cap issues?

    Dewayne Robertson-DL- Broncos Apr. 24 - 9:03 pm et

Upon acquiring him from the Jets for a late-round conditional pick in 2009, the Broncos signed DT Dewayne Robertson to a five-year contract.
Terms are unknown, but it's likely closer to a one- or two-year pact in reality and worth far less than what Robertson was due from the Jets. The draft pick can escalate to as high as a second-rounder, most likely based on stats.

Well fellas, it turns out the "Bowling ball covered in razor blades" was nothing more than a gutter ball.

BTW, who said that about him ?... I think it was another player.

This was one issue the franchise needed to put behind them asap, I wish D-rob health and happiness with all his millions and bum knees.

Wow, that's an incredible deal all things considered.

If Vilma and D-Rob play up to their ability, we could be looking at having 3 2nd rounders along with the extra 4th next draft.

Holy shitballs!!! If DeWayne could put together a big year while the Broncos lose 11 games...I mean, I root for the Broncos to lose anyway, but this makes each loss so much more tasty.

I think if the NO pick becomes a 2nd, then the Jets have to give up their 2009 4th round draft pick to NO if I remember correctly.

very good to see this happen.

he has the chance to play better and still gets the money he signed for, we get him off the books and get something in return. if he plays well we get something better.
very nice job by the FO to get something for a guy who i thought would simply be cut.

good luck to him as a couple posters are correct he didnt do the things that hurt his career, he played hard and injured for this team his entire time here, he played out of position and didnt bitch. he was a model citizen in jets land.

theres way too much hatred on this board for this guy, and he doesnt deserve most of it. im sure you hateful people will find someone else to hate this year.

Very few players on the Jets arent bashed. From Vilma to Baker to Clemens to D'Brick to Pennington to Robertson to Graham to Nugent, most of the players on the team have gotten criticism and trashed upon sometime or another. Only ones who havent are Rhodes, Harris, Washington, Cotchery, and Mangold. Oh and of course Curtis Martin and Wayne Cherbet, no one can hate them man.

I dont know why that is but its something to be expected out of the fanbase, well at least some of them.

i agree baker, chad definitely gets it as much as drob if not more. and they are both stand up guys who come to work and do their job as best as they can with the tools that they have. i just pointed him out as he was the topic.

i think it does have something to do with the fanbase, we hate our own players just like philly fans have no class and cheer injuries.
