One can only hope you're right. Then again, if we find out the conditional pick could escalate to a 3rd in 09 that could probably be better than getting picks this year. It isn't unreasonable to think that DeWayne won't do well for one year in a 4-3 system.
Picks Correct me if I'm wrong but do we not now have three additional picks in the 2009 draft from the trades of Kendall, Vilma, and now Robertson - all 4th round or higher? I'll take that as a good long term strategy to build a consistent contender. Go FO Go!!!
This ranks up there with the resignation of Paul Hackett as one of the greatest days in Jets History.
I'd rather let Baker sit out, so the FO and coaching staff can fine him for missing practices, and workouts. With the 8 million that just became free, we should re-sign Hank Poteat, and sign a couple guys after the June 1st cuts. This money will also help us sign rookies.

On Poteat and Baker, I am with you. However, there really aren't that many June 1st cuts anymore for a couple of reasons: 1) teams can designate one player per offseason a "June 1st cut" for cap purposes regardless of when he is actually cut 2) teams understand the salary cap better 3) The increases in the cap the past two seasons means that overpaid veterans don't necessarily have to be cut
Isn't it amazing how we laud the acomplishments of the Front Office for something that they themselves caused for the devaluation of a former #1 pick? If the they had stayed with the 4-3 D to begin with it would be safe to assume that D-Rob would have continued to progress and become the player he was sought after for. Instead we are overjoyed in the fact that he is gone for future considerations. Another low point in Jets player personnel manuevering.
I see what you're saying, but we now have a lot of extra cash to go out and get a couple of guys... I think CB Fabian Washington of the Raiders' will be cut, if not traded for a late round pick on draft day. He could be a good signing if he comes in cheap. Ty Law is still available (if he doesn't sign with New England), and could be a good stop gap corner for one or two more seasons. I'm sure there are a few defensive linemen, and linebackers available for depth and rotation. 8 million dollars gives the Jets many more possibilities...
Not sure that it would be exactly a safe assumption considering he failed the Bengals physical. I was never as down on him as most around here, but if his health, after 5 years in the league, is such a concern that teams are scared to trade for him, the real mistake was drafting him in the first place (over Kevin Williams, no less).
One of the last bad draft day trades by the Jets exits stage left!! This deal will be for a 5th and 4th or 5th next year. It frees up cap room for a player who was as big a disappointment, when you consider what we gave up for him, as we have had since the likes of lam jones etc
