Notice how they dragged it out long enough to make sure it couldn't have an effect on the draft and the #7 pick? It's really disgusting. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/8063826/NFL,-Walsh-may-have-deal-in-place-for-video-evidence "Lawyers for the National Football League and former New England Patriots video assistant Matt Walsh are close to a deal in which information and materials pertaining to past videotaping practices would be handed over to the league, The Hartford Courant reported. A source with knowledge of the negotiations expects the NFL to announce the agreement today, the paper reported."
ok so if it's in place now, and he has really hard sufficient evidence, like every Jets fan on the planet is hoping, will Bellicheck be forced out of New England? will they have to forfeit draft choices? do they strip the superbowl rings? what exactly will happen to New England?
I'm guessing we never know what is on the tapes and no further punishment is issued. I'd like to know, and there is chance, but the NFL has been trying to make this dissappear for a long time.
I talked to my favorite cousin last night for about three hours. Family stuff mostly; but of of course the conversation eventually turned to football. He's big Giants fan (barf), and we talked all about the Super Bowl (again). So I wrapped up the conversation by saying, "You know, you can thank the JETS for that win. If it wasn't for Spygate, Belifraud would have had the GIANTS number. He was being watched." "Wait, let me get this straight. THE JETS are why the Giants won...?!" "Damn right." "HAHAHA!" "It's true! Full circle, brother. Without Candid Camera, 10 bucks says the refs don't let them play ball. They call Eli in the grasp (horrid call), game over." ".....(pause). Alright. Thank you, New York Jets." "HAH!" Anyway, the taint will follow Belichick and their phony legacy to the grave no matter what does or doesn't happen. Patriots fans still haven't gotten the memo they got beat fair and square.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3363455 And, it's official. A deal is in place. Hopefully this can distract the Patriots enough to let Beli screw up his draft on Saturday. Wishful thinking.
It's awfully poor timing for the NFL if it's hoping to make everyone forget. With the draft coming up on Saturday, there are many more eyes scouring the net for NFL info. June would have been a much better time to announce a deal.
I don't think it's fair for the NFL to take away the #7 pick. That's an SF pick that they used picks last year to get. Take away their first next week. Ignatius is right. This will be all over the Pats pick.
Handed over to the league? The same league who destroyed the initial evidence? Guess this guy doesn't want to wash dirty balls in Hawaii for the rest of his life
My thoughts exactly. I doubt there is anyway Senator Eagles will let Goodell destroy the evidence a second time. Anyway, the Cheatriots know they fucked up. I think is is obvious with the hiring of Dom Capers that they are prepared for the worst/best -- The firing of the Disgraceful waste of meat space -- Bellicheat. They know Walsh has something -- they know that they are FRAUDS!
Depending on Walsh evidence, Goodell ready to crack down on Pats http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3365225 NEW YORK -- Roger Goodell is fully prepared to crack down again on the New England Patriots if his meeting with Matt Walsh uncovers a tape made of the St. Louis Rams' final walkthrough practice before the 2002 Super Bowl. "Taping a walkthrough is much different from what I punished them for," the NFL commissioner said Thursday at a meeting of a group representing the Associated Press Sports Editors. After more than two months of negotiations, lawyers for the league and Walsh, the former New England employee, finally reached agreement Wednesday on terms that will allow him to talk Goodell. They include an agreement by the Patriots not to sue Walsh and to pay his legal expenses and his airfare to New York from Hawaii, where he is now a golf pro. Walsh's name first surfaced just before the Super Bowl, in which the Patriots were upset by the New York Giants after finishing the regular season 16-0 and winning two playoff games. Among the allegations was that the Patriots illegally taped the Rams' final walkthrough before that title game, when New England, a two-touchdown underdog, upset St. Louis 20-17. Five months before their loss to the Giants, New England coach Bill Belichick was fined $500,000 and the team $250,000 for taping the New York Jets' defensive signals during the season opener. The Patriots also lost their first-round pick in this weekend's draft. Goodell said Thursday he has no idea what Walsh, who spent six years as a New England employee, has to offer than what the league already knows: Belichick had been taping defensive signals since first becoming Patriots coach in 2000. He noted, however, that the league, which destroyed the tapes from the Jets game after reviewing them, had spoken to 50 people in connection with the case and that Walsh was the only one who asked for legal protection. Belichick has emphatically denied taping the walkthrough. "I have never taped a practice, certainly not that one," New England's coach has said repeatedly. Goodell said his mind is open on the subject.
Goodell said his mind is open on the subject? What the hell does THAT mean?! Now Belichick can channel signals and denials with his brainwaves?
