Just wondering, would he be close to the top of the list of "best number 2 receivers" or would he be more the middle of the pack?

I think Cotchery is very under rated. He is a beast. Just needs a better QB.... :(

Under rated as in "he is one of the best number 2's" or just under rated because he hasn't got enough balls thrown to him.

EDIT - or lets put it this way. Who in the AFC has a better number 2 then us?

    Wayne
    Houshmandzadeh
    Welker
    Boldin
    Jennings

Those are the only #2's I'd rank above Cotchery. And that's considering how bad our QBs were last year.

I'm not even sure I'd rate Jennings above Cotch... maybe equal... Jennings was on a much better team with a much better QB... but I'd definitely put him behind the other 4 that Kris listed.

Wayne is the best of the bunch.
Welker is more of a slot guy, a #3, and the best of his class.
I'd put Cotch even with Whosyourmomma and Boldin, and ahead of Jennings.

Cotchery is one of the best #2's in the league. he struggled as a #1 when Coles was hurt last season. Maybe not enough speed, and couldn't handle the doubles.

The Jets have two of the best #2's in the league, but at this point they have no true #1

Yeah I'm not suggesting all those guys are definitely better than him, but those are the only ones who i think an argument could be made for.

Yeah, Wayne and Jennings are speedsters. Cotch is a YAC guy. All with great hands. So, I'd have to agree, I'd compare Cotch to Boldin and Houshmanzadeh.

There is no such thing as a #1 or a #2 receiver. They are just receivers. There is a difference between lining up outside or in the slot.

Let me ask you, was Reggie Wayne a #1 or a #2 in 2007? in 2006?

Cotchery is an excellent receiver. Consider that he had almost 1000 yards in 2006 and 1100 last year (with a horrible OL and offense in general), and that he ranked among the league leaders in YAC the past two seasons. Put Cotchery on the Colts or Saints and he would be a star already. I think he has surpassed Coles as the best receiver on the team. The only reason his TD total was down was because the Jets never threw to him in the red zone, opting for that fade to Coles over and over and over again.

Cotch is a #1 with proper suppor tcast.
Very Jerry Rice-ish, deceptive football quicks, great YAC capability.

This guy is very very good, best we have.

^^^ that's what I think too. Cotchery is a very good receiver already and if the Jet's QB and O-line stabilize I think he's going to be one of the very best in the business.

Welker does not rank ahead of Cotchery, Welker is a product of the greateness around him. Cotch's had only 45 less yards despite catching 30 less balls. Cotch also missed a game and played the final few games w/ a broken finger and w/o Coles on the other side. Cotch is ALOT better than Welker.

I don't think Cotch is a #1, but he is a solid receiver.

And he is much better than Welker, Welker is just making the most of a great situation.

you dont have to have blazing speed to be a #1.
not many better at route running, hands and YAC capability than Cotch. All with a crap support cast.

    This guy is for real.

    Hard to rank him yet.
Without having a decent oline, up until now, hes looked tough and has made some excellent pressure receptions. Doesn't have any break away speed which we desparetly need in a #1-3 WR. For me Cotch and LC are very 'samey'. Don't get me wrong I like them, and out of the slot are very difficult to cover in short to mid-range passing.
Could be a break out year for him in 08/09.

He is only getting better too. I would think he should have a huge year this year. He is great for YAC, think if we put a Hardy or someone like that on the team how nice our WRs could be. I also think stuckey and some of the others reserves have potential as well.

OK. Really except for Wayne you could rank Cotchery on par with or above any of those guys. I just tried too hard not to take the homer stance.

ah, good memory. stuckey is the intangible that could effect this team greatly.

i also think Jets do not draft a WR in 2nd round due to stuckey coming back.
