Does anyone else feel it is possible that Coles won't be Jet on Monday? The key word here is "possible" not guaranteeing anything.

This has been a very weird situation. The Jets offered to guarantee the last 2 years of Coles contract. He raised heck about it. Wanted an extension and more money. Didn't show up for the voluntary work outs, and threatened to hold out later on.

All of a sudden it went away. No extension was given, and Coles hasn't made a peep since.

Something is wrong. Coles is not a player that is told to shut up, and shuts up, without getting his way. I love Coles, but the guy can make a lot of trouble.

The only guess I have, is that he was given permission to seek a trade, perhaps a 3rd rounder. This might quiet him down. He can make more money, and opening his mouth would only down grade his value, and the likely hood of his getting his trade and more money.

If this is true, one of two things happened.

    1) no body was interested

    2) He found some one, and it will go down draft day contingent on the draft board at the time.

    It is just to quiet.

I think the excitement and intensity of the draft is playing tricks on your brain.

    Just take a deep breath....

Lots of rumors about Roy Williams moving...is there any chance the Jets and Lions swap receivers as part of a draft deal?

The veteran receiver had been negotiating for an extension to his current contract and even skipped the first week of voluntary offseason workouts earlier this month. But Coles returned to the team Monday with only the promise of a compromise, and on Friday, an NFL source confirmed that Coles and the Jets agreed to have the remainder of the current contract guaranteed rather than extended. That deal will pay Coles $11 million for the next two seasons.

Coles, who turned 30 in December, wanted the kind of contract that would allow him to finish his career with the Jets. He'll have just turned 32 when this deal expires.

Coles, regarded as one of the league's toughest receivers and one of the team's most respected players, had an injury-filled season in 2007. He suffered a concussion as well as an ankle injury that cost him six games and ultimately landed him on injured reserve for the final two weeks.

He finished 2007 with 55 receptions for 646 yards, his lowest totals since his rookie season in 2000. It also was the first time since 2000 that Coles did not play in all 16 games.

If Coles can remain healthy and regain his productivity in 2008, there's a chance his contract could be revisited next offseason.

Coles had accused the team of lying to him about promises of a long-term deal. The team reportedly offered him the fully guaranteed contract - believed to be the first in franchise history - about a month ago.

The Jets proceeded cautiously with Coles' demands a year after their failed maneuverings with guard Pete Kendall. That rift lingered for months until Kendall was traded to the Redskins during training camp and continued to linger during the disappointing 4-12 season.

I have to be honest with you...with all the rumours swirling around, and this being the NFL's "bullshit" month....I wouldn't know what to believe even if i could.

So who knows what will happen. I'm literally just trying to get through the next 4 days without pulling my hair out and excessively drinking.

Williams for Coles would make me believe we actually have a playoff team that can challenge for a title.

Just sick of seeing the names Gholston and Mc Fadden.

Just trying to throw something else out there to give us ulcers.

Besides I have stock in a Vodka company whose price has been slipping lately. Figured this would help.

I thought the Jets made the last 2 years of the deal guaranteed? But I'm not positive.

They just guaranteed the last couple of years on his contract, if we traded him now all of that money would be accelerated and kill our cap. If they were going to trade him, they would never have done that.

SO you think downgrading at WR would make us instant title contenders? I like Williams potential but he might be the most overrated player in the league, certainly as far as TGG is concerned.

Coles is a better receiver right now, for the future may be another story altogether but right now and their overall career body of work Coles has been better.

    I'm undecided on this matter

we need someone young if you ask me but Coles is a great player...getting shut of 2 WR in one off season cant do us any favors can it?
