Suppossed the FO isn't sold on Clemens and Matt Ryan is available at 6. You think the Jets could trade Clemens to a Carolina for a mid 2nd round pick? I think I would be able to handle a draft looking like this: 1) Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College 2) Curtis Lofton, ILB, Oklahoma 2) Tracy Porter, CB, Indiana 4) Eddie Royal, WR, Va Tech 4) Curtis Johnson, OLB/DE, Clark Atlanta 6) Thomas Decloud, S, California 7) Marcus Dixon, DE/DT, Hampton
Funny Thread Tittle. I think he's worth a late 2nd, since he'd go to a team who needs a backup QB who can start if needed. - Giants, Colts, Pats, etc. I like that draft, it shores up alot of holes.
If AJ Feely could be traded for a 2nd then I think Clemens would be worth a 2nd round pick. And care to elaborate why the draft is horrible? Although that would mean you'd have to either capitalize a letter or use punctuation so you're probably better off just sticking with what you said already.
I would say a 2nd or 3rd... But I would be completely opposed to trading Clemens now while he still could end up as our franchise QB... Other than Eddie Royal probably not making it to the 4th round, that would be a very solid draft if there was no Kellen Clemens on the roster.
Under any normal situation I would have to agree with you and say that you have a very good point, except for the fact that it was the pre-Parcells Dolphins who made that trade
Well again this is really more hypothetical then anything. With all the rumors circulating the Jets either love Matt Ryan or would rather pluck Ray Lucas out of the SNY desk and have him QB before taking him. I like Royal alot but there's alot of receivers in this draft and could see him possibly slipping because of his size. I do feel like the Jets are the type of team that could package late round picks together to move up into the 3rd or so which would make Royal more likely.
I LOVE your draft but we would trade Pennington before we trade Clemens, who I do not think the staff is giving up on. I would not mind a Cleveland/Chargers/Bills type of QB controversy with 2 good young QBs, but Ryan would cost so much at 6 you could only do it giving up completely on Clemens, OR by trading/cutting Chad and taking the salary cap savings and putting into a roster bonus for Ryan THIS year, and signing him for 6 years so that cap wise Ryan and Clemens are pretty close but Ryan gets much more guaranteed. Do love your selections though, every one. Really would lose myself in excitement if we got Lofton and Royal after the first round.
That's what I was thinking too. Two years removed from a 2nd rounder and the fact he has done nothing good would translate probably to a 4th or 5th, if that.
I go to Virginia Tech and altough I love Eddie Royal as a player, I really don't see him contributing to the NFL much besides punt/kick returning (which he is excellent at). He never seemed to catch very many passes at VT, and the VT QB Sean Glennon was HS teammates with Royal so it wasn't a chemistry issue. Royal would have 2 extraordinary games a year and be invisible (0-2 catches) in the 8-9 other games.
It would be an absolutely horrible time to trade Clemens. He has nowhere to go but up. He'd draw less in a trade now than if he had never started a game. I'd say a 5th would be likely, a 4th possible. No one would trade a 2nd for him when there figure to be at least 3 QBs of backup to starter quality available in that round.
at this point i think a 3rd rounder would be fair. he was projected as mid 1st rounder before his injury. he went high second round to us. He hasnt set world on fire so a late 2 or 3rd round would be fair. I assume we would 'settle' for a mid to high 4th worst case.
