If there is a real competition for the starting QB position it is a terrible sign for this team coming into next season. What that means is the HC doesn't believe in either QB.
Why is this guy so praised by the draft specialists, anyhow? What is his upside? Who would you compare him to as far as his throwing abilities are concerned?
thats what scares me, and makes me think we have to take a chance on one of these kids coming out in the draft- i think a Ryan, Brohm, Flacco, Henne, and Josh Johnson (in 2 years) are better than what we have now. The 1st 4 QBs i mentioned could step in after a year of sitting and learning. I think this is Clemens' last audition, if he tanks- we go with a new guy again next year. If he improves, we will stick with him.
I have been a long time supporter of Chad b/c of his intelligence, accuracy, leadership, and toughness. The kids a winner and a gamer that's gets the most out of his talent! Injuries have either killed or derailed his career, remains to be seen? The CS did exactly what I or anyone with a brain would have done last season this. Have an open QB competition in camp and when the season went to hell w/out Kendal and w/out any off-season upgrades they smartly took a look at Clemens for half a season. The O-line sucked and they overestimated the talent on the roster so any QB would have struggled w/ no protection or running gm. That being said, I didn't NOT like what I saw out of Clemens!! He started out w/ a great gm in Balt, but his play got worse from there. What was most alarming was that he was panicking in the pocket almost every time he dropped back!! You could tell by his body language that he had no idea where the pressure was coming from and if the defense was playing man or zone. He wasn't looking down field and tucking it away and running way too early. I know he didn't have a lot of time to throw, but he still looked like he didn't have a clue out there after his first read, that was very scary to me.... The CS saw the same thing's I did and more so trust me they are NOT sold on Clemens yet or Penny would be gone already. They haven't given up on KC yet either!! So they revamped the o-line and overall talent and will have another open QB competition TC. KC will have a half a seasons gm experience under his belt and Penny another yr older as you's say - The Jets are in good shape either way. KC is either the present and future QB or a second round bust and Penny either bounces back with a great yr or he is gone after the season. Lastly, if it's an open QB competition in TC I would NOT bet against PENNY!! I wish I could put KC's arm on Penny and Penny's brain in KC's body, we'd have P. Manning. Lol From what I saw of KC and from what I know about Penny, don't count Penny out just yet. With a revamped line, a running gm, and another NEW weapon or two on offense I wouldn't be surprised at all if Penny surprises everyone and has a great yr. Shift, with his second healthy off-season in a row I wouldn't be surprised if he built up his shoulder and throws the ball better than ever. The guys all heart and guts and you dicks should appreciate him even if KC is the better man. The guys lead this franchise to the playoff a few times with not that much talent, he plays hurt and injured, and even won comeback player of the yr when everyone had him for dead, remember that!!! Well, it's going to be a great season and may the best QB win the job.
The Jets picking Ryan at 6 tells you wait 3 more years before we challenge New England's dominance over us.Also that we have no liking for Pennington or Clemmens either. The way I'm reading the tea leaves now Ryan could very well be the new fair haired boy in Mangini's backfield
We will challenge their dominance when Brady and Belichek leave together. Until then, I'm sitting on my hands and enjoying the Wild Card births.
No way we are paying 7M for a has been that never did anything when there are so many just as incapable quartersacks standing in the unemployment line.
Thanks for coming???? Hey I'm a Jets fan so I just want the best QB to play. If that's KC great b/c he can make all the throws, but he better show some awareness and that he has a clue
Did you watch Chad last year? Simply disgusting! Dude, he didn't have a good year!! He wasn't as accurrate as usual and he made a lot of bad decisions but it could just be a bad yr. Hey, KC would be great so nows his chance. the Jets are rooting for him to win the job so let's see if he could win it
Why? Is there a new rule that states a team cannot compete for division titles if it drafts a QB in the 1st round? The Colts made the playoffs in Peyton Manning's second season. The Steelers made the playoffs right away with Ben Roethlisberger.
I'm with you on this. If the guy has an outstanding season, he will take his team places. BUT Roethlisberger/Steelers and Manning/Colts had more weapons than the Jets have right now. I can see Matt Ryan, or another rookie QB like Brohm or Flacco leading this team to 8, 9, or 10 wins...but he'd have to play LIGHTS OUT. It's going to be tough to take this division in 2008 because of New England's weak schedule. They aren't building for the future in NE. The Jets will catch up, and take over.
I don't think there is any question that Kellen Clemens will OUTRIGHT win this job. I think this is all a psychological thing the Jets are doing. Think about it: If the Jets simply handed the Job to Kellen Clemens...he may or may not have the confidence to help this team win. HOWEVER, if the Jets make Kellen compete and earn his job...he will feel like he has accomplished something even before the season begins and garnered the respect from his teammates. Football is a team sport and if Kellen has his teammates backing him up after winning the job...our offense WILL BE BETTER NEXT SEASON.
Are you serious? How is it beneficial for Kellen to split reps with the 1st team with Chad? If Kellen was the guy and the FO believes he is the guy then Chad would have already been traded. The CS would have Kellen take every single rep and completely design the offense around him. Those of you who think this is a psychological game with Kellen are out to lunch. This is a grown man, not a teenager that either needs to step up and take over the team or realize he is a career backup. I am leaning toward the latter.
If he beats out Pennington he hasn't beaten out the starter, he beat out the backup QB for the starting job. The reps are more important than proving he is better than a backup QB.
Chad's career is at the edge of being over... It'll take a near miracle for him to be as productive as at least 06, he'll never reach 2002 ever again. Clemens is a gargantuan question mark, i'd like to take a QB who may be ready next year- just to cover our asses. I'd like to be optimistic, but the writing is on the wall. The team is nearly set at all positions , but the most important one is not settled- that should scare any Jet fan. Consistency at that position is paramount, without it- you don't win.
