three playoff seasons in 5 years is best run of any jet team since they started playing ball and the two years they missed out 2003 and 2005 chad was injured most of the year two of the seasons we got to the afc divisional game pretty good record-----yes no super bowl but we were a force to be reckoned with
Well done mate, you deserve a lot of bashing for Cotch komments (comments with a K btw). Dude, I dont even think you know anything about the Jets, let alone Cotchery. Moss was ok, but his better years were yet to come. I would'nt rank him first rounder though. Jolly was a piece of sh*t but we got Nugent in the deal. That made the trade bad from worse though. Bryan Thomas is ok. D Rob was terrible at 4th. Vilma was a great find, too bad we could'nt utilize his abilities too long. Its hard to find probowlers with all your first rounders. Its possible but its probably not going to happen in back to back 5 drafts. Since when has the draft been contracted to one round? It has 7 rounds and you have to look at the big picture. Surely Bradway sucked at it but even he found some good talent deep in the drafts. If Kerry was drafted in the first round, Im sure no one would have said he's a third round (or whatever) talent. Nugent is decent, a clear upgrade over the bum Doug. We needed a long term reliable kicker for a while and I think Nugents fits in nicely. He's the best but he is decent. Cotch can catch...n run...period. I think Eric Coleman was good but maybe not as good as you wanna be. A great backup though. Kareem Mckenzie was good. Lamont Jordan was very good as long as he was a Jet. Jon McGraw n Baker are decent too. However, overall I would grade that regime a D+ for bringing in a few good players deep in the draft.
When Chad was injured, this team was in ruins. Now that he's healthy, can he do the magic again? Chad taking us to the playoffs is magic according to a few cause his lousy arm can only throw about 50yds down the field. Vick was a better QB cause he could'nt even complete his rocket arm passes 5 yds down the field. Thats the impression I get on TGG anyways.
I don't think Chad will ever be healthy enough to play the way he did in 2002, and I think part of his success was that he was mentally ready to play, had the benefit of an all-pro offensive line and a shifty, uber-durable HOF runningback to allow him time to get the ball away, a pair of glue-handed-if-small wideouts, and he came in during the middle of the season when opposing coaches had no film on his to gameplan against. But he had to compensate for a slow release and less than stellar physical tools with touch and timing, but that is all that he has left now that he's had two surgeries in his throwing shoulder. Some injuries you never fully come back from.
lol...Im sure the Jets did'nt use him in pre season, plus he never played any college football to have any video. He was homeless and the Jets made him a starter out of nowhere...
There was an article in the Post around the time of his 1st recovery in 2005 that said no QB ever comes back from a rotator cuff surgery, that they are inept afterwards. There was a chart with 4 other QBs listed. Now he did comeback after two of them, he won the award. But its taken its toll to the point where he is now another statistic.
Exactly which is why based on your grade the NYJs squander those 5 years of the Bradway/Herm leadership & why we are what we are. You can all make excuses for them but in the end they were both total failures & pushed us farther back from a WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IMHO
You know most of the time Champ is just a troll and he is in this thread still to an extenet but he brings up a valid point. We busted on 5 straight first round picks. However you slice it they either flat out sucked or are not with the team anymore. This was the reason Mangini and Tannenbaum had such a monumental rebuilding task. Hopefully they can complete this rebuild but it has been a painful ride to get there.
Out of that list you have one bonafide star, that is pathetic. Hobson and Baker are outright Jags. Nugent was a spectacularly bad pick. Miller is a kick returner with 1 year of performance and hasn't yet shown enough cover ability to be a consistent nickel back. Cotchery is an excellent two or three WR nice pick, way to go Bradway. That's a five year legacy of outright incompetence.
Having only a kicker to show for a first round pick is horrible. I don't care if you are talking about the best kicker to have ever played the game, it is still a waste of a first round pick.
This tread will turn into 5000 useless pages. The off season is just boring. I would consider most of this a repost
The point is jolley wasnt traded for a 1st round pick we got jolley and moved back. You cant consider jolley a waste of a 1st rounder.
all they did was gravy-train players left over from the tuna regime. the more of those guys who left, the worse we got.
