I think that when the Jets are on the clock in the second round they could very well have Manningham and Hardy on the board. Now I'm not saying they have to take a receiver at the 2nd round, but this team does need a 3rd receiver. The question is do we need the speedster, or the red zone target. Thoughts?
I would go for size. We need a Red-Zone threat and someone not afraid to go up and get it. Someone like Vincent Jackson (from the Chargers) would be a dynamic target in the red-zone, and even so... there are great receivers in Coles and Cotchery, and even in the TE with Baker and Franks.
i should have read the post before i did the poll, the jets need a big receiver bad. however typically i would want one of my top 2 receivers to be the big possession type receiver and bring in the speedster when you go 3 wide.
I'd say speed simply because we really don't have any (blink and/or one missed tackle, and he's gone) at the WR spot. At least none that scares opposing Defenses.
good thread... normally for a team you want your third to be a guy that can catch well and has speed to run the seam route effectively. On this team however i would want A tall reciever ala Hardy. In the beginning he could play slot yes, but in two years when Coles is gone. Hardy could be the number 1 while Cotch is the sure handed 2, Fitz Boldin esque. Then we could have this discussion all over again in two years for another #3
BTW Hardy runs a 4.47 40 and is 6-7, so he's by no means slow, especially for his size. I'm speaking of that particular scenario said in the OP. Our red zone offense is anemic and a smaller speed threat won't help that.
Speed is what we need. We need speed to strike some fear in the DBs. Can Chanci still run? Who is the one in the draft that can 4.2 it?
Don't talk to me at less than 4.4... Andre Caldwell, Fla, 6-0-1/4 - 204 Lbs., 4.37 forty Eddie Royal, Va.Tech, 5-9-5/8 - 184 Lbs., 4.39 forty Dexter jackson, Appalachian St., 5-9-1/2, 182 Lbs., 4.37 forty William Franklin, Missouri, 6-0, 214 Lbs., 4.37 forty Donnie Avery, Houston, 5-11, 192 Lbs., 4.40 forty
I think we need another big target, if it was choosing between the two and not having the luxury to get a guy who has both.
Chancy Stuckey is supposed to be our burner deep threat--the role Dedrick Ward played so well back in 1998 with Keyshawn and Chrebet working the intermediate stuff. Therefore, I vote for the big target. Our red zone offense is atrocious. A better line will help. Only thing is, Jets are a fade-happy team--what will they do when they finally get a big man on the team?
Let's get a QB before we worry about a receiver that neither of our current QBs will ever get the ball to anyway. At least not if they are more than 10 yards from the line of scrimmage.
You can't fault these QBs until they get an NFL quality OL in front of them. If they both suck behind an OL that can keep the Defense at bay then you can groan, gnash and complain all you want. We need speed. Speed is what we need. If Chanci can stay healthy (which remains to be seen) then he can compete for a job -- but we need to draft some serious speed to freak out the DBs.
We should just keep with 5’ 7” whining, non catching receivers and call it a day. I cant imaging the passing game is of any priority this year anyway – I’d say the goals are to sure up the lines and get the running game going. Unless we can find a receiver bad ass enough to throw to himself – it’s a waste of time because we sure as hell don’t have a quarterback from what I’ve see so far.
