OK... ok... the corner we're talking about is LESS then a reach then the WR your talking about. does that make sense at all?

Of course Mike Williams had those questions surrounding him, but he was still in everyones top 10 and Kiper called him the best overall talent in this draft. Personally, this was the only REALLY dumbass pick from moment 1. The Lions needed O-line help (Brown), LB help (D. Johnson), a pass rush...and there were talents at those 3 that could have been taken otherwise.

And I disagree and agree with you. I know theres more to scouting reports than that, but what you're using on Rogers is 100% hindsight. The guy was a sick prospect at WR, and went where he should have went. Injuries did alot to his career, but no one was mocking this pick when it was made.

The reason teams put so much money into corners is because it is the most important aspect of a defense sans a pass rusher. Therefore, if we are to reach I have no problem with DRC or Leodis. Also, everyone keeps saying, oh lets just trade down...no one wants to trade up! If the Longs, Dmac and Gholston are gone then we are stuck. Yeah it sucks that we'll have to reach but hopefully we win enough games this year where we'll be in the twenties (or the thirties), so we don't have to worry about these fat guaranteed contracts.

Once again, people are forgetting we are talking about "reaching." That means no matter who you take, they are not worth that position in the draft. So all of those questions are moot, just due to the very premise of the thread. It comes down to if you have to reach - Who is a player people are sleeping on? What are the teams major positions of need? How best to allocate the teams resources?

Yea sorry...Mcklevin and DRC IMO are better prospects than this still to be named WR at 6....

Thats what it comes down to.

Sure, but that's an opinion. Personally if we are discussing reaching, I would rather look at the overall state of the team and adding depth at positions we are weak at, and trying to diminish the negative impact the player might have if he busts given that we had to reach in the first place. Just my opinion though, when I think about a team having to reach, that is just what I think the focus should be.

So from my point of view, we are thin at WR and DE. And of all the positions in football RB has the best chance to contribute early.

Of course no one was mocking the pick, 'experts' like Kiper who have rumors spread to them by scouts predicted the pick. The validity of those rumors are always in question, however. How many times has Kiper been positive about a pick and have it blow up in his face? He and other draft 'experts' are used as much for airing a smokescreen as they are given valid tips on draft projection, why is why I am always a skeptic when it comes to anything leading up to draft day.

I'm gonna have to quote myself on this one in saying...

I'd say we're pretty damn weak at CB. Now, I know we need depth at WR, but why REACH as low as #11 (some mocks have Bills drafting a WR) when McKelvin/Cromartie are projected to be drafted at #7? Picking a projected #7 player at #6 spot is still a reach. Small reach, but a reach nonetheless. Why you keep aiming lower than that to give any player 6th spot money is beyond me.

because you take the best player available, not a wr that wouldnt even crack the first round in last years draft. and a 3-4 de is hard to come by, who do u suggest? at the number 6 pick even reaching they should at least fit the fucking system. i'd rather they blow the god damn pick on an offensive linemen then another player that doesn't fit the 3-4

Because mocks and projections change everyday and with every person. I have read mocks where NE takes Gholston, hell I have even read a few that has McFadden falling to them at 7. That is why I am focusing on position. And I would go WR, RB, hell I would even go OL, considering we have spent this whole offseason revamping the Oline, might as well finish it off.

But just looking at needs, and team resources now and in the future, I wouldn't go CB. Just what I think, no need to get all worked up. But let's face it, having to reach is a bad place to be, no matter who they end up taking.

if long's, gholston, QB & DMC is gone, I'd say take DORSEY/ELLIS. BAP. both beasts! make them fit the scheme.

What i would do if Gholston and McFadden are gone is go CB aswell , Draft either Rodgers Cromartie or Leodis McKelvin. Either one i would be fine with.
