One of my best friends has been an Eli hater with the best of them for the last two years. I try to calm him down with my 'humor', but he only stops his rant when Eli makes a mistake and wins. When the NYG won that SB in Arizona, I gave him a couple of days to calm down before I called him. It took my friend a while to come to grips with the fact that all his negative expectations and frustration were frustrated by Eli. It was the last thing in the world that he expected, I can tell you. My friend still cannot bring himself to forgive Accorsi for the trade with San Diego to this day. To my friend, his impressions of the game and the resultant player judgment have begun to rival the games themselves. Still, he isn't giving away his four season tickets yet. Guess he must be enjoying himself.
The thing with Eli is people were Digusted with him because he never lived up to his potential. Eli has talent and people were pissed that he did not live up to his expectations. He finally got it together and hopefully will be that much better going forward. We have a situation where we have an overachieving Qb who has come to the end of the road and out of loyalty mgmt and the Fans don't want to cut the coard with him. This would not have been a discussion in Ne, Dallas or any other winning program because they would have made the right business decision and not the emotional one. To make matters worse in the Afc it is a much rougher road to the playoffs and Sb as opposed to the Nfc. At the end of the day Eli stepped up and did what Chad can't do.
I see at the end of the day Chad couldn't evade a pass rush. (think he has done that about every snap he took last year) Then throw up a prayer to a man covered to have him make a circus catch with his helmet to move the chains. Which eventually won the game. Difference is I guess Chad would evade pass rush and then hit Macarren in the numbers to have him drop it. This was the same argument I heard about Chad when he came off the injury and went on to have a record year. Only difference between that year and last year was no running game and no offensive line. I know teams figured him out thats why he was intercepted. Not hard to figure out you are going to throw the ball when you cant run it.Dont need a Qb to win the game , just not to lose it. Yes it would be nice to have someone with a rocket arm and who was able to make good reads and get the ball to receiver. No Kellen is not that person. But if coaches think he is and give him another chance. I will back him . Simply because he had nothing to work with last year either. So bring on the competition and let the best man win.
Staying fixated on the QB and ignoring the reasons for losing. If this QB is overachieving and coming to the end of the road why do you think the CS would be nostalgic about that? They didn't draft him. "what Chad can't do" -- isn't a fact, it's an opinion. So, why would the CS give him another chance? These "hate mails" for Chad are all about the CS, not the player. The CS maintains that there will be a competition. Let the best man win.
Put Eli behind the Jets' OL, with no running game, and without his top WR in Plaxico (who bails Eli out so many times it's scary) and watch what happens. Hell, Eli makes mistakes all the time even WITH a good Giant team around him. Put him on a team lacking in talent and he would fall apart. People forget that Eli sucked until he got hot during the end of the season and playoffs. I would expect people to want their QB to be more like him IF he can do it again next year, but not based on just 4 or 5 games.
YOU KEEP FORGETTING THAT QBS ARE MAGIC AND THEY ARE THE REASON ANYTHING GOOD HAPPENS ON A FOOTBALL FIELD!!!! God help you.
Chad had everything he needed to win when Curtis Martin was his Rb and what did he do? Nothing. In 06 we beat two teams that were over 500 and one of them in a monsoon. The Giants did not sack Chad one time when we played them this year and what did he do? Throw the usual Pick Six interception to end the game. You think Teams are not going to make Chad throw if we get to the playoffs. Everybody has a good line when you get there and they can take your strength away. Kellen was in his first year had nothing to work with and still managed to finish 3-4 and could have been 4-3 if not for one dropped pass. Chad was 1-8 and that was because the team escaped against the Dolphins. You will back a 6 year starter who could not pull out one win but you wont back a second year first time starter who was 3-4 with an even worse team to work with? Kellen was throwing to Wallace wright and J-mac in some games!
What competition? Kellen outplayed Chad in Preseason last year and the best man was not given the job at the beginning of the season.
This is true. Chad had the worst pre-season in 2007 since he has been a Jet. It all carried promptly over to the regular season.
The pre-season games were not the "competition". In the pre-season games, Chad was asked to hand the ball off over and over and the CS experimented with the OL. Kellen was asked to go all out. The pre-season games were only a minority fraction of the off-season elements that the CS used to prepare the teams. As fans, we will not get to see (and the media will not be present) for the majority of the elements of this competition the CS is planning for the QBs this year. If you base your feelings and judgment on the pre-season games, which are plain vanilla in offense and defense facilities, you will be sorely disappointed and misled. That's the intention of the CS, except for trying out the fringe players and the newbies.
Quote: "...The Giants did not sack Chad one time when we played them this year and what did he do? Throw the usual Pick Six interception to end the game..." We did not run well against the NYG. The QB was forced to get out of the pocket over and over. Just because there was no "sack", didn't mean that the DL did not disrupt the NYJ's offense pretty damned effectively. The NYG only sacked Tom Brady in the SB 5 times, but they hit him 23 times. There is a reason why Ross could jump those short routes twice for INTs. It was the lack of time the QB had and the disruption of the DL. The NYG D did this to a lot of teams last year, even though their offense did not always take advantage. Don't you find this relentless pounding of Chad (and Kellen too for that matter) at odds with the NYJ CS? Why don't you think they haven't cleaned the house of these abominable excuses for QBs before now? Why is it that the NYJ CS persist in sticking by these QBs?
Chad went 1-8 in the Regular season last year and Kellen went 3-4 in the regular season last year. If a proven vet can not do better than 1-8 and a Second year first time starter can go 3-4 and do it with less to work with because Coles was concussed by the time Kellen came in give me one reason why we should even be having a discussion about who should start. People keep saying Chad had nothing to work with as an excuse but Kellen had even less and managed to get us 3 wins and could have gotten four if not for one dropped pass. Does common sense not tell us the Qb who won more for us under bad circumstances should get the nod?
What other options do they have? They drafted a guy and the jury is still out on him. They have a vet who's an average QB. There's no good FA QB's available. We will see just how much they're "sticking by these QB's" once the draft roles around.
Frankly, I am very pleased that the NYJ CS and FO are focused on what the real problems of the NYJ are. Hopefully, the OL, the DL, and the LBs will be upgraded and coached up, not just with this heavy FA activity, but also through the draft. We need to permanently change the culture of the NYJ's line of scrimmage so that we have a foundation to win with, instead of an occasional flash in the pan. Aren't you sick of how regularly lousy our OL play has been these past five years when our co-tenants' consistently successful OL has made Tiki Barber and now Ahmad Bradshaw and Jacobs and Derrick Ward (of all people) stars? The solution to all this inconsistent losing has been right there under our noses for all this time and only Mangini and Tannenbaum have finally started doing something about it. I only hope they've got the guts and persistence to really finish the job on a successful line of scrimmage.
The NYJ defense played a lot better after the bye, in spite of the fact that the OL was a sieve and couldn't stop the three and outs. This had a lot more to do with our ability to win than the ballet dancers.
Did you see the interceptions that Chad threw in that game. Especially the one to ross to end the game. It was beyond disgusting. I was embarrassed for Chad. Do you realize that Linebackers jump his routes now?
This is why it is a good idea -- with the absolute dearth of good ready-to-play QB candidates trying to beat down the door of the NYJ FO -- to de-emphasize the QB as the critical factor in the NYJ offense. It's important to make a lot of things work well -- like the OL, and like the running game, fir instance. If the running game is working well, then the DBs can't jump those short routes because they're busy getting their face masks bent if they don't pay attention to the run that is coming their way throughh the secondary. If the defense is forced to respect our six yards and a cloud of bloody dust then they can't cheat on our passing game. If the OL is actually blocking at the line of scrimmage well, then any lousy QB will have a chance to decide who is open and set his feet and deliver the ball. But the OL has to enable this. When we have an OL that can do its job regularly, instead of by a miraculous accident, then we can get back to talking about QB relative merits. Right now, though, the disaster is not in the skill players, it's up front. Without an OL nothing else has a chance, and we're just wasting our time. It doesn't matter who is the NYJ QB when you haven't got a running game or an OL that can keep the pass rush out.
Chad played the dolphins, Bills twice, Eagles, Giants who were nowhere near what they became at the end of the year at the time and the Bengals. Please tell me what more you want the defense to do in these games when Chad started last year. Sept 30th v.s buffalo we lose 17-14 Oct 14th we lose v.s. Philly 16-9 Oct 28th we lose to Bufflo yet again 13-3 Dec 23rd we lose to Tenn 10-6 We held Ne to 20-10 on Dec 16th! Please explain to me what game other than the 31-38 loss to the Bengals can be blamed on the defense. Are you going to tell me we can's score more than 14 and 3 points vs the mighty Bills? I will even give you the Ne games because we would have lost with Kellen or Chad. Kellen played Was, Pitt, Dallas and Cleveland. He played two bad teams and beat them both in Miami and KC! I want to hear your explanation for the scores of the games I listed and why the Defense had anything to do with us losing. IF your a Qb and you can't put up 20 or more v.s the Bills there is a serious problem.
Can some one tell me how many players are there on the roster please...This post is confusing whether there is another player on the team or not.
