Here are some interesting notes on this column.

New York Jets switch spots with the Oakland Raiders, mainly because the Jets fear the Patriots will jump ahead and take Gholston.

At #4, the New York Jets pick: Vernon Gholston
At #6, the Oakland Raiders pick: Darren McFadden

Another key note on Kirwan's Mock Draft is the New England Patriots trading down with the New Orleans Saints.

With the 7th pick of the draft, New Orleans takes Sedrick Ellis
With the 10th pick, New England takes Leodis McKelvin.

Should the Jets be this aggressive based on rumors? Or in your opinion would this be a solid move?

Yes, be aggressive based on the rumors. That's always a solid way to man the GM post.

The danger of NE jumping ahead of us and snagging Gholston with Dmac going raiders and both longs gone is a real one. That would leave us in a bad spot at six and probably unable to trade out.

I'm ok with this, but its kinda lose lose in a way... We stay at 6, Gholston may be had by the Pats and we are screwed at 6 unless DMC is there... we move up- pats move back and take McKevin and acquire more picks... not fair to us IMO... i think if we move up the Pats are stuck at 7.. NO can wait on Dorsey as well, knowing their franchise MO, they'll take the injury DT over moving up for Ellis and screw the pats over while Ellis goes to Cincy.

The last time we made a move based on 'rumor', we ended up with DRob...

    What about Revis and Harris?

I see the move as OK as long as it is for Gholston and nobody else. I really do not think there is anyone else remotely worth moving up for based on our current need.

Man, that KC game at the end of the season was really expensive........and useless.

I highly doubt the Pats would trade up, and I doubt Mangini thinks that will happen and if it does they can overpay for Gholston because he isn't work moving up for...

Personally I'd rather the Patriots move up ahead of us, take Gholston and then that would leave McFadden there for us and we could then trade down.

I hate the idea of trading up for anyone this draft. Stay where they are and hope one of their top 3 targets is available, if not then try to trade down.

I dont even really like the idea of drafting Gholston at 6 let alone trading picks away to get him. If NE is so hot to get him then let them be the team that trades picks away to draft a player that isn't ideally suited to play in a 3-4.

Read the entire Mock (if you got 5 minutes of you life to waste). How the hell does he get paid for that?

I think...I THINK...(I'm actually trying to look up which teams have wut rounds to pick in the later rounds but many aren't updated since trades) the Patriots have 2-3rd rd picks (from Oakland from last year). So, technically, they CAN switch positions with the Chiefs by swapping 1st rounders, and that early 3rd round pick. So basically, all it would cost the Patriots to move up to get Gholston is an early 3rd rd pick, but they would still have their late 3rd to fall back on.

If the Jets can find a way to move down, I would try like hell to make it before the draft. I get the feeling that the top 5 in this one is going to shuffle quite a bit on draft day, and i'd rather not get left out in the cold with a player that the Jets aren't totally in love with. That said, doing anything before the draft will take away a bit of value, not to mention be very tough to do, but it's an avenue worth exploring.

I think they move up for only one player: Chris Long. I'll bet $100 Mangini is in love with this kid and will do anything to get him. He does fit the system, whether they put him at DE, OLB or both. That, and he seems to be one hell of a leader.

So, you're thinking we're going to cough up our first, our second, and our first next year for this kid Chris Long? You really think that's how much he's worth?

We should just let the Draft come to us. I'm sure there is a team out there that will look to move up come Draft Day. Losing our 3rd rd pick costed us our opportunity to possibly move up. Any move up the board will be too costly this year especially seeing how much help/depth we need at LB, OL, WR, CB, S, QB.

FYI, this was posted on a Pats Mock Draft board:

"6. NY Jets- Darren McFadden - RB - Arkansas

If Clady and both the Longs are gone, the Jets will take the most dynamic playmaker left, and that is the TD from anywhere threat from Arkansas. He might have the best arm on the team as well.

We are so well liked by them................

They don't have nearly enough to move up for Long. Not unless he slips to #3 which is doubtful.

So what, it was a hell of a lot more costly last year (see 4-12) and we did it anyway. Moved up for a CB and ILB when what we desperately needed was help on both lines. Don't expect anything to change, especially this year.
