Whichever way Jets' go in draft with 1st & 2nd round picks....they need to "double down"...which means that if they draft an Offensive player, then draft 2 offensive players with there first 2 picks {such as #1 pick of McFadden & WR or OL with there #2 pick} & if they draft Defense...Then draft defense with there first 2 picks {such as Gholston with there #1 pick & a DT/DE, ILB, or CB with there 2nd pick.} Then go the opposite way with there 4th round pick....unless they reacquire a 3rd round pick. This will strengthen one side of the ball tremendously & thus Jets' will try to win games by dictating gameflow offensively with ball control or defensively by a suffocating 3 & out defense....either strategy is effective & wins games. :jets:
What the hell are you talking about? You think it matters if they select two offensive or defensive players in a row? This makes little to no sense. Do you actually think that teams go into a draft saying they will take two players on the same side of the ball with two of their picks no matter what?
I'm going to have to agree with this idea being pretty absurd. Doubling down either way isn't going to make us dominant on either side of the ball. We're not there yet. Oh and balance is never a good thing I guess.

The NFL says ...."Defense wins games" & so success states that Jets' should continue to build there defense. Jets' have no young Defensive Linemen, so if I were selecting for the Jets'....I would focus on defense with there first 2 picks. Then draft an OL or WR with there 4th round.
Actually...Jets' have been drafting like this there last 2 drafts. They took D'Brick & Mangold year 1; then Revis & Harris year 2.
In 06 we needed a LT and C and got them where they were easily projected to go. Last year we thought Harris and Revis were all we needed to push ourselves over the top. This year we got who we needed in FA. Now its time to take the BPA
i think the best pattern is to go offense, defense, defense, offense, offense, defense. guaranteed superbowl right there.
how about we take the best player available instead of focusing on whether he plays offense or defense.
it's pretty hard to do this because who's available / desirable has to do with those taken and the NYJ Player Board. At some point, abandoning the BPA becomes self-defeating. Having said that, it is the NYJ Player Board that determines BPA, from all their scouting research and expensive personal experience with these guys, not the pundits and investigative reporters and their bias.
If they were to get Jake Long in the 1st they would probably have the best OL in the game. I would then look for a DE, OLB or ILB in the second but that is just me. If they got Chris Long or Gholston in the first I would probably still look for somebody on defense in the second making for a potential killer defense unless Brohm is still there and then I would take him.
They need to draft best player available at every spot to build depth and an overall roster. Not go on silly position based gimmicks.
Don't expect that to happen this year. Maybe next year. I see them basically doing the same thing they did last year. Target a couple of players and go after them.
I'm afraid you maybe right. For some reason this FO has taken a different stance on the draft than what i consider the best philosophy. It's def. a "sink or swim" type notion...we shall see.
I just see them going all out this year to be successful and then going back to the 2006 strategy next year once them have pretty good team and are picking lower in each round.
This is ridiculous. That's a recipe for a 2-14 season. You go offense, defense, offense, defense, defense, offense, defense. Then and only then will you draft a winner. And don't ever draft special teams. They're losers.
