sorry folks about the profanity but we have a month to go here and the rumblings for the RB are getting out of control, IMO..... Is it me or did thomas jones and leon washington get traded or cut...... the last time the jets were this close to a very talented defense was back in 2001 when the circus came to town, changed the defense completely, and decided to ignore the defense on draft day - and that promising defense never came to fruition. Now we have 2 rookie studs at CB and LB, an established all pro at NT, and 2 likely all pros in rhodes and pace - folks thats half your defense at all pro level. i sure wouldn't mind putting the finishing touches on that unit with another rookie stud in there take your pick - long or gholston - either one makes a huge impact with the jets. i would not trade up for gholston but i would trade up for long - i think he is a bit of a safer pick. why not the RB - we just re-tooled 2/5ths of our offensive line and that unit is going to take time to gel. mcfadden, though a very good runner, is not a disciplined runner so a new offensive line is not going to help his game. i would feel much more better about him if the jets had a veteran line that has been together for 3-4 years at least. the jets have a very capable tandem in jones and washington - together with a top 5 defense they can make some noise in january, without mcfadden. i want defense - end of story. jil
I'm with you on this subject. Even if the new projections that both Gholston and C. Long won't be there at the 6th spot are ture, why not pick the best defensive palyer available. Dorsey? Why not? 4-3 Tackles can be successful 3-4 Ends and he certainly has all the intangibles that the current regime is so high on. McKelvin? Is it a reach? Maybe but it gives the Jets on of the top CB tandems in the league to go with their revamped front 7. Forget McFaddie. A top 5 defense will take us further than a skinny legged RB.
If it were our pick we would take Long or Golston. If they are gone and only McFadden is on the board then it will be McFadden. End of story.
I'm all for the BPA, if we get lucky enough to have the top player in the entire draft available to us we have to take him. We can still build a top 5 D with the rest of our picks, I dont know why anyone would have an issue improving the O, which at this point is alot farther away from a championship level than the D is.
I'm with you also....McFadden is not going to be a Jet. We only worked him out to show other teams (Cowboys) that we are interested in him. Jones still has at least 3 good years left in him and we can get a RB in the future. Heck Jones gained over 1000 yards with a terrible OL and I can't wait to see what he does with our new OL. Best case we get Long, next best case we get Gholston and worse case we trade with Dallas, who really want McFadden.
Our offense was pitiful though. Last year the defense wasn't half bad and it's definitely improved. McFadden behind the new line wouldn't be the worst idea in the world.
Dorsey? Are you kidding me? After the whole D-slob fiasco, I don't care if he drops to our second round pick...I do not want an undersized 4-3 tackle with knee problems on our team.
That was exactly my thought. The only difference being, we're not going to trade away 2 first round picks for him...
No this is all about people not understanding the concept of BPA and being afraid of another skill position bust. We are in no position to draft on need. As of right now..at # 6...DMAC is by far the best optin..and frankly...he's an upgrade over Jones AND Washington. You wanna make an argument against trading up for him? That's fine..we shouldnt be trading up for ANYONE in this draft....but the insistence of drafting one position over another is starting to get ridiculous.
just pointed out how ridiculous this post is, Established all pro nt really? last time i checked he had never played in a 3-4 before and hasnt even been at a probowl level in 3 years. Pace AYFKM all-pro he was considered a bust until he had one decent season last year. I want this defense to be top 5 but mcfadden is far and away the best player in the draft if we want to get a true home run hitter, we have to take a chance on him.
Gholston, if Long is no longer available, McKelvin if Gholston is no longer available. TJ. Leon. Jesse. Some Mo' OLs, Some Mo' DLs. Some Mo' LBs. When we are established as crushing runners, and dominating D, then worry about some new ballet dancers. Maybe next year. Or, maybe 2010. First the run, then the D, then the pas de deux.
1. You can say "fuck." 2. Everyone wants a top 5 D. 3. I'd rather have a top 5 everything. 4. We're only getting closer.
Kurt, You were a big critic of last year's Jets draft when they traded up for Harris and Revis and passed up on drafting OL. Looking back, don't you think now that it turned out really well? We got two studs on defense last year and fixed the OL pretty well with Faneca and Woods. Do you still think that we would have been better off drafting Blaylock and Grubbs and keeping all of draft picks last year rather than trading up for Harris and Revis? By the way, how did those OL picks and the other players the Jets could have drafted last year turned out?
YO man, how good would our defense be if we got law to sign and play fs, if we got q. groves at 22, and dre moore at 28??? (we'd take a big wideout at 36)
