From Jetscentral.com... Jets, Raiders Discussing Trade Friday, March 21st 2008, 12:03 pm by Gary Grund According to Xtra Sports 1360 AM, the Jets and Raiders are discussing a trade that would move the Jets up to #4 overall. The Raiders are asking for the 6th overall pick and defensive end Kenyon Coleman. Just Kenyon Coleman? Can they really be that high on Kenyon Coleman to possibly sacrifice the pick where Darren McFadden could go? I take this rumor with a grain of salt. ========================= I'd take it with a grain of salt, but at this stage of the game I think we're all a little hungry for some more news and rumors, so I posted it.
I just saw this over there as well I wouldnt do it if i was the Jets until possibly draft day to see how the first 3 picks work themselves out. I def wouldnt do it if it was to move up for Mcfadden
this sounds like BS... Long is the only candidate i'd take at #4 with this trade. Why are we jumping ahead of KC? They have different needs than we do? Coleman is a good DE too. So why are we getting rid of him? Stupid rumor.
loul DENG This will be a good option if its still available on draft day and we need to move up. I don't think we pull the trigger beforehand though.
It would appear we wouldn't be jumping ahead of KC for a player we mutually want, but rather for DMC. I could also see the Jets making this move to get Gholston as well; from the Raiders.
(Supposedly) Smarter football people than I are running the Jets. On the surface, I am all for trading down, but that is hard to do. Trading up and loosing a guy that was a pretty good 3-4 DE last season doesn't seem wise. (However, if the player selected at #4 becomes a superstar then, of course, it was a good deal.)
good to see a rumor of this magnitude cause i am telling you folks the pats are gonna try like hell to leapfrog the jets and the obvious partner is KC. but you are right - likely nothing until these folks are on the clock. jil
about 4-7 Mill in guarantees. 4 will be like 24M guaranteed 6 is like 19-21 guaranteed Depends on the position as well.
Lets see, we move up to ensure one of the 3 we are likely targeting, C Long, Gholston or most likely McFadden and all we have to give up is a JAG in Coleman. I'm game, too bad this is most likely a BS rumor with no substance behind it.
I really like Coleman and would hate to see him go. The ONLY reason they would make this move is if they are confident that Chris Long can play 3-4 DE.
Chris Long is not going to be a 3-4 end and would probably be the most unlikely to make it to 4 anyway. I could see them thinking that they can take a guy like Dre Moore in the 2nd to plug into Colemans spot and be just as effective.
I agree that Long prejects to 3-4 OLB, which is why this rumor is such a head scratcher. If they went another direction at #4 we would have a gaping hole at DE. Maybe they are considering keeping Robertson and playing him there? I hate that idea too, but I'll trust their judgement.
I would hate that. Kenyon Coleman proved to be a very solid player in his first year as a starter. Is giving him up really worth moving up two spots? No way. Not that this will happen though...
I doubt this is true but it does make sense. You figure if you are at four as opposed to six it's almost a lock that Gholston/DMAC/CLong will be there at four (one of them I mean). With the way mock drafts have been lately it's not impossible that all three are no longer there at six as it stands. Either way I wouldn't be crazy about this trade and would rather see us sit tight or even trade down.
Just Kenyon Coleman you say....the guy isn't a bad player. I just did a quick check on nfl.com on tackles for the season and he was the leading tackler as far as Dlineman are concerned. I know all the darksiders might have a hundred reasons why that stat doesn't matter...but I think it's impressive that we had the leading tackler at DE and I think the Raiders feel the same way. Then again, I wouldn't want to make the trade. If we do I think it's b/c we are pressing for McFadden. Landing the no.1 marquee rb in the draft would be good for management...he alone would bring more then enough hype to keep the seats filled in the meadowlands; and that hype would help Woody recoup all the $$$ he's spent this off-season. IMO though we still need more help in the pass rush if we are ever going to beat the pats on a regular basis.
You know, we would have been able to have #4 and keep Kenyon Coleman had we just lost to the chiefs...... And I wouldn't make it this far in advance, I would want to see how the first 3 picks unfold.
