    troy brown visiting

didn't see it on the board
nothing big, but our wr corp outside of the top 2 is terrible
he would actually be the #3 guy going into the draft...

Knowledge, leadership, and Mangini taught him how to be a DB, i don't want him on the team come september... TC fodder.

brad smith hasnt become a reliable #3 or 4 wr yet, stuckey hasnt played a down and is a 7th round pick, and wallace wright is a special teams player...this is why we are talking to troy brown
it wont stop us from drafting a wr...or possibly adding another vet, but he would be the #3 right now (sadly)...

I wonder if Mangini even knows how bad it looks to gobble up NE's castoffs.

Why not take a look at him? What harm is there to see if he has anything left? I know he's old, but just because you didn't see him do anything last year, that doesn't mean there isn't something in the tank. The Pats had Moss, Welker, Stallworth, and Gaffney. Let the coaches and professionals assess whether he can still play or not. At worst we sign him to a 1 year Vet minimum contract to help the young WR's like Brad Smith, who like Brown used to be, could be a versitle weapon.

I thought Brown said he wouldn't play for any team that played the Patriots in 2008.

Guess he's desperate for a job.

This sounds like a sign & cut. We'll sign him now & just cut him if/when we get something better.

He may be 37, but he's not even signed yet. They are just looking at him. It's not like they just announced that Troy Brown has been signed to replace Coles. They are just bringing him in for a visit. What is the harm in that?

Just how many of those 53 roster spots are you willing to fill up with players like that?

He's not even signed yet. He's just visiting. And even if he got a vet min contract and was brought in to camp, and he somehow at 37 years old or whatever can outplay any of the other WR's and make the final 53, then what does that say about what we currently have to depend on. If he gets signed and cut in TC, then so be it. This is not a big deal.

probably just bringing him to give him a shot, and give us more information about the Patriots in general, no need to freak out, he will be a try-out like Wadsworth was last year if he signs. he only gets paid if he makes the squad...

Ummm.... wrong. Troy spent time at DB at Marshall, I saw him play at the position, and one of his most famous plays in his Marshall career was a walk-off OT INT in 1991.
