I get sick of the Sportscenter reruns at work so I put on First Take(Cold Pizza) in the mornings. They're doing a mock draft with beat reporters and such of the team and tomorrow's show has the Jets on the clock at #6...Gholston, Both Longs, Ellis, and Glenn Dorsey are off the board. Show is from 10-12 in the morning.
And I have a feeling he will have us taking McFadden too... It's interesting that Matt Ryan wasn't taken by the Falcons. The Falcons and Matt Ryan seem like a perfect match. That Falcons need a QB so that they can put Micahel Vick in their past and Matt Ryan looks like he could be a good one. It would be even more interesting if he was available at #6 come April 27th. If the Jets passed on a potential top flight QB in the draft and have poor play from Clemens/Pennington in 2008... Not saying I want Matt Ryan or expect him to be there, but if the guy is available, I think he needs to be looked at as a serious option.
The draft has gone Long, Long, Gholston, Dorsey and KC took Ellis. Its set up so the Jets HAVE to take McFadden.
McKelvin or Cromartie would be a great choice but Im sure whoevers picking for us will just take McFadden because "we desperately need an offensive playmaker"- its not like having a dominant defense counts for anything these days
A big reason why we couldn't win last year, was because the offense couldn't score. We do need offensive playmakers because we don't have any. Rodgers-Cromartie has the biggest bust potential out anyone in this draft.
I am not sure if we would take McKelvin if McFadden or Gholston was there... Unless the Jets REALLY want McKelvin then I suspect that they are targeting one of the two. (DMC or Gholston) I would love McKelvin if both longs, DMC and Gholston are off the board though.
I know what you are saying, but you can have a dominant defense and have zero playmakers and never win a superbowl. The example that I would point to is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with Shaun King, Warrick Dunn and NOBODY at WR. This team was consistently a dominant defensive teams. Warren Sapp, Derrick Brooks, Rhonde Barber, Donnie Abraham, Jon Lynch were all in their primes... But they had Shaun King at QB, Warrick Dunn and Mike Alstott at RB, and I can't remember any of their WR's. Point is, I would love a dominant defense, but eventually this team will have to add a playmaker to win a superbowl.
I this will those people off the board we gotta look to move down any way possible while still getting even value... I have a feeling either Gholston or C. Long will be available at #6... preferably C. Long but most like Gholston
I think the Jets will probably choose that great TE from Penn St... hey anyone else gonna go out and get that cool new tape by Hootie and the Blowfish... think i'm also getting that new operating system Windows 95, I hear its blazing fast... does anyone think the Rams moving to St. Louis is a dumb move too... Moral Of the Story kids... Don't Do Drugs, you'll regret those decisions 13 years later... Pick McFadden
A big reason why the offense couldn't score last year was because we had no oline and everyone kept getting hit in the backfield(fixed for 2 years). We have TJ as our feature, Leon playing change-of-pace, and no Chatman to carry the ball on short yardage plays. Bringing in McFadden would be a mistake at this point because it's just going to create a crowded backfield with too much money in it. Not to mention the fact that we still haven't addressed the lack of playmakers in the receiving corps. Coles is being hampered by injuries and his unwillingness to accept $11-12 million guaranteed over the next 2 years, Cotchery is another yards after the catch guy so if we do wind up calming down Laveranues we still have a one-dimensional passing game with the starting package. Baker has great hands but isn't a deep threat, Brad Smith is still developing, Stuckey has yet to play a down in the regular season, and Wright does his best work on special teams. If we go offense the only place to add a play-maker is at WR and there's no one worth taking this high. If we're taking an offensive player this high the smart thing to do is pick a lineman to continue the work we started with Brick and Mangold, or a QB if the CS and FO think that Clemens just isn't the guy.
ravens won the ring with a sufficating defense and a below average offense that was asked not to turn the ball over and to score at least 5 points a game. sure they showed it could be done, but how interesting was the team to watch all season? boooooooring. when you wait for your team to have the ball to go get a beer, well...... gholston/long/mckelvin would certainly enhance the defense, but mcfadden would keep asses in the seats if you know what i mean. poll: if drafting defense enhanced our SB chances by 20 units but our team was boring, and drafting mcfadden enhanced our chances only 15 units but our games were much more fun to watch, which way would you go?
Defense, because i'd sit with my head on my hands and enjoy the win, rather than sitting at the edge of my seat worrying about losing... I love my team that much.
All this defensive talk is well and good. Gholston would be a great addition as would Chris Long. But taking a CB at # 6 is alittle outlandish IMO. For one, we JUST took a CB in round 1 last year who we gave up multiple picks to get. That CB happpens to be better than ANY cb in this draft, and went alot LOWER than the prospective spot many want us to pick one. If ya don't want an offensive playmaker...more power to ya.. But at least target a player you'd like for us to draft who has proper value for the # 6 spot. No cb in this draft does.
^^^ No wideouts or Offensive linemen either at 6th. It's like the only I see for this whiteshoewilly guy is about the gaints pass rush. Gotta have a pass rush to beat the pats, blah, blah. But the Charges did a damn good job rushing Brady and they lost. Why??? Because they couldn't score ( dude mostly to injuries). And if the Gaints didn't have Eli, Plax and a damn offense, theywould have lost too. So my question is do you see anything that is close to what the Chagers were missing(LT and Gates) or what the gaints had on offense(Eli and Plax)??? We need Mcfadden period!!!!
