This is fun. The last picture was taken after the game because people are walking on the field. You can vaguely see the scoreboard on the right. I can't quite tell the opponent but it looks like they scored 7 in the 1st and 14 in the 4th. Anybody with better eyes? I'm struggling.
According to pro-football-reference, here is the 1983 Jets schedule: That puts the 10/16/83 game against the Dolphins at Shea. The NFL.com website agrees, so I think it's pretty clear that that game was at home. http://www.nfl.com/teams/schedule?team=NYJ&season=1983&seasonType=REG Edit: actually, wikipedia also says that it was a home game: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1983_New_York_Jets_season
Look at the trees outside the stadium in the fifth and seventh pictures - they all have leaves, and the leaves are green. It can't possibly be December.
No I was referring to the Mets but b/c I post a joke I am obsessed. These were not pics I took and apparently it was 1983 vs. Miami. My first Jet game would next month vs. Buffalo at Shea.
The infield dirt was sodded over. That means the Mets season was over and so this has to have been an October game or warm November day.
YEes it was and we blew a big lead ( 14 or 21) and Bill White Shoes ran back a kick or punt. Man it was pouring that day. The Rams game was when Eric Dickerson ran for 80 yds on 1 play, maybe his first carry for a TD.
I think it was 21-0 and we lost something like 27-21, typical of that year. That was the same day the US Marines barracks were attacked in Lebanon, they almost didn't play the games that day.
the game is definitely oct 16, 1983...when u try to save the pictures, the file name has 10 16 83 in it
:rofl2: This actually occurred to me after I went to bed last night. It was still fun figuring it out, and I'm happy that I got it right, but the moral of the story is don't ignore the obvious!
That's funny, after all this detective work, too. That was one of Dan Marino's first games, his first against the Jets. I'm not sure if he started, his first couple of games he came off the bench, maybe just his first game. Our game might have been his first start, close to it.
Thanks that guy listening to the walkman maybe me. Thanks junc I sent along to my son for his more detailed analysis
It's nice to reminisce about playing in a stadium that we didn't have to share with our RIVALS! It's so sad that we'll continue to be second class citizens as long as we share a stadium with the Giants.
That would be a nice tribute to the JETS fans from yesteryear. I read that the Rangers are most likely to play the last game at Yankee stadium. I think the Jets should cut into some of that Billy Joel action. :jets: Link to Rangers; http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/yankees/2008/03/09/2008-03-09_yankee_stadium_game_likely_for_rangers.html
