Acquring Callaghan, Chatman, Richardson, Faneca and Woody tells us that the days of the complex formations are over--the jets will try to run it down your throat. I thinks this also speaks loads to the fact that Clemens will likely be behind center. Pennington has a weak arm and the smash mouth attack would better set up the deep ball when the safeties crowd the line of scrimmage. Now if we can get a WR like Wesley Walker that can get behind coverage we'll be gold.
I really can't wait to see how all these changes come together. I'm dreaming of long clock eating drives where we impose our will on the defense, beating the snot out of them in the process and wearing them down. If we can do this we will win a lot more games. o and
When the OL obtains some respect at the line of scrimmage, then our skill players will finally have a chance to do some damage. Until the OL bloodies some noses at the line of scrimmage, they will continue to get our skill players mashed. The NYJ has no respect at the line of scrimmage from anyone in the NFL. The NYJ must instill some fear in the defenses that they face. They best way to do this is with a running game that takes no prisoners. It's time for the NYJ OL to manifest with a little marvelous violence on offense. Let's run over some people.
Well, Tomdeb, you have to be serious about your OL, otherwise, start taking MORE ballet lessons and get off the field.
This has been the problem for years... no "ass" on the LOS. I'm okay with the O-line but I'm really anxious to see what Jenkins brings to the middle of the D-line. If he gets energized, he brings 350-360 lbs of double-coverage requirement, which in turn frees up the DE or LBs or Kerry Rhodes to wreak havoc on the passing game. And how are they gonna run it up the middle with all that mass in there? That ain't gonna be easy either. Can't wait for the season to start.
This will give us the flexibility to play how we want. We can run it down your throat, or confuse the hell out of you... Little bit of old school, with a little bit of Schotty's new school.. "what Offense is that? I dunno... What package are they gunna run now?? I dunno!!! oh no!!" -- Opposing Defenses
Yeah, it'll definitely be interesting. Smash-mouth run it down your throat for 3-4 plays, then here comes Brad Smith and Leon Washington with a little flick here and a 15-yard scoot there. When they think they've got that figured out, Clemens lets go with a bomb to Cotchery and you've got 6 points on the board.
If you remember the floaters to Leon down the sideline that worked early in the year, where he starts out at RB and runs an up route and catches it about 25 yrds down the field and goes for 50 (scored on this play once, forget when)-- that play worked very well but was picked up because of the one-dimensionalism last year... With the new style, we can bring back that play and others like it and they won't be as recognizable. Cotch should go from 1 TD to about 8 this year, with the new O-line it has to happen.
Hell, Schotty might even be able to get our TEs in the mix once in awhile. Baker and Kowaleski need to step it up in TC this year. Kowaleski showed some early promise at last year's TC... pretty good hands and he's a tough, determined guy after the catch... total north-south guy when he gets the ball.
I love the excitement we have going around here! We haven't even had the draft yet and I already feel like the team is way better than last year.
i think its a safe bet to say we will be a predominet running team, this will help out whoever the starting qb is w/playaction, bootlegs, clock eating drives, e.c.t, this will also help out our d, keeping them off the field and fresh, i am very excited about the moves we've made and were not done yet, cant wail till the 08 season
A good O-line allows us to do ANYTHING we want on offense...which means being a smash mouth team as well as a pass happy, complex offense. We're finally allowed to be smash mouth, something we've been missing since our last OL aged.
Jenkins is gonna do his thing...But he'll only be as good as the DE that lines-up next to him. Jets' still need 2 DE's. Coleman is good off the bench & Ellis is not the answer & is also good off the bench in thi shis last season with the Jets'. Pouha & D-Rob lined-up next to Jenkins might be the start at making a difference.
Actually this offense is set up perfectly for Chad! He has the ability to be very accurate with the long ball. Also, he's great at play action! Mark my words Chad will be the QB and our beloved Jets will make the playoffs.
Yes, very accurate, but the ball takes 2 quarters to get there. God, I like Chad, and try to be impartial in this argument, but the Chaddites flummox me with their blindness.
You beat me to it... when I read that about Chad's accuracy on the deep ball I thought the same thing. Accurate, yes (usually), but a pick waiting to happen. And this is why Chad cannot start for us this year. For us to not let Clemens take the reigns and see what he's got would be extremely stupid on our part. Clemens either finds his own rythm and demonstrates he'll be our man or he doesn't... that simple. And there's no way to tell that if you're gonna start Chad again.
